10 Pokémon Characters Fans Want To See More Of

While there are obvious characters expected to make their return in Pokémon Journeys, there are plenty of other characters fans want to see again.

The latest series in the Pokémon anime, Pokémon Journeys, has taken on a different format. It moves away from the usual earning Gym Badges to enter the Pokémon League tournament. Having a refreshing new system, Ash challenges all sorts of different trainers in a bid to climb the ranks, bringing plenty of intriguing possibilities.

Pokémon Journeys gives the show a reason to bring back familiar faces from previous series of the anime. While there are obvious characters expected to make their return — such as Ash’s close friends and travel companions — there are plenty of other characters fans want to see again.

10 A.J.’s Unbeaten Streak Needs To Come To An End On Screen

A.J. may not have been the best character ever introduced to the Pokémon anime, but the concept of his unbeaten streak is still intriguing to fans. He appeared towards the beginning of Ash’s long Pokémon journey and quickly humbled Ash with just his Sandshrew, continuing his unbeaten record.

This mark on Ash’s Pokémon journey will always remain unresolved if Ash never gets a chance at redemption. It would also be interesting to see if and how A.J. has changed, and what other Pokémon he may use now.

Gible Is One Of Several Pokémon That Need More Appearances

Trainers aren’t the only characters fans want to see more of. There are plenty of Ash’s Pokémon that were never used to their full potential before they became lost in the shuffle. One major example is Ash’s Gible. When Ash captured Gible during the Diamond & Pearl series, fans were excited by the prospect of Ash eventually owning a Garchomp.

However, Gible was limited to defeating Conway’s Shuckle and Dusknoir, before being on the wrong end of the mauling provided by Tobias’ Darkrai. A return at some point could see a Gabite or even a Garchomp join Ash’s already formidable lineup.

Katie Took Ash To The Limit But Was Never Heard From Again

Katie was given very little build-up before her Ever Grande Conference battle with Ash. Yet, still she was introduced in a later round that saw their 6-on-6 bout shown in its entirety. She used clever strategies and tactics like those that Conway and Paul would use a generation later.

Katie took Ash to the limit but never appeared again. A return to the forefront after all the time that’s passed since the Ruby & Sapphire series would be rather random, but it is still an intriguing prospect to consider.

Roxie Deserves A Rocking Return

It isn’t often that a Gym Leader gives themselves a severe handicap against a challenger, but Roxie did just that when facing Ash. There are rules that prevent Gym Leaders from switching Pokémon, but Roxie went for an actual handicap — choosing three Pokémon against Ash’s six.

Roxie may have eventually lost the battle, but it was by the narrowest of margins. Fans believe some form of rematch should take place outside the Gym challenge. This would allow the two to battle on a level playing field and determine who is the better trainer. Roxie appearing in Pokémon Journeys would also make perfect sense as she could add the Gen VIII Toxtricity to her team.

Tobias Should Return & Become A Main Rival For Ash

Opinions on Tobias will always be divisive. There are those who believe his thrashing of Ash was a waste of time after the exciting battle between Ash and Paul, while others were excited by Tobias’ selection of Pokémon. In a 6-on-6 battle with Ash, Tobias only used two Pokémon — the Legendary Latios and the Mythical Darkrai — but no clues were given about his other party members.

This suspense and level of intrigue has led to speculation for years about what other Pokémon Tobias may have. Whether he appears in Journeys or not, a trainer of his calibre who uses Legendary Pokémon should feature more often.

Ash’s Incineroar Has Not Actually Been Used In Battle Since Evolving

Ash’s Alola campaign was a huge success. Not only did he win the Manalo Conference tournament, but he also defeated Professor Kukui and Tapu Koko in an exhibition match. During that exhibition match, Ash’s Torracat finally overcame its rival, Kukui’s Incineroar, and even evolved into one immediately after.

However, Ash’s Incineroar instantly fainted from exhaustion and hasn’t been used in a battling capacity since. Fans are desperate to see Ash utilize the formidable Incineroar in some way, and a return would bolster any team he has at the time.

Giovanni In A More Active Role Would Make Team Rocket More Of A Threat, Finally

The leader of Team Rocket has made his fair share of appearances in the anime, but fans are generally left wanting more. Giovanni appearing in a more active capacity could be the perfect solution to keep the Team Rocket trio from going stale.

Giovanni has been limited to phone call conversations for many of the show’s seasons, but was much more active in the original series and Black & White. His appearances in Pokémon Origins were intense and entertaining, and further cemented the need for additional appearances in the main anime.

Casey Is Another Trainer Whose Return Is Long Overdue

Casey was the rookie trainer introduced at the start of Ash’s journey around the Johto region. She had an ambitious and overconfident personality, quickly challenging Ash to a battle. She lost in spectacular fashion, but that was expected given that Ash used his powerful Charizard.

Casey had an infectious personality, emphasized by with her hopeful optimism as a supporter of the Electabuzz baseball team. A return for Casey would be welcomed by fans with open arms, and there would be plenty of extra Pokémon based on the black and yellow colors that could join her team.

Holly Never Returned As A Worthy Partner For Brock

Brock’s gimmick of confessing his love to every girl he meets isn’t enjoyed by everyone, but on the rare occasions someone likes him back, fans can’t help but want the best for them. During the Hearthome City Tag Battle Competition, Brock was paired with a girl named Holly who — despite initially rejecting his advances — gradually became enamored by him.

When Brock and Holly lost to Paul and Ash, she felt responsible and left. Brock later found out Holly had left with the aim to become stronger and a better partner for him. However, Holly has never returned, and although Brock is no longer a regular in the anime, fans still want to see them reunited.

Delia Ketchum & Mimey’s Appearances Are Always Welcome

Ash’s mother, Delia Ketchum, is one of the most pleasant characters in the anime, but doesn’t appear all that often. She is supportive of her son, but is never overbearing — allowing Ash to embark on adventures around the world.

Whenever Delia does appear, she has the family’s Mr. Mime in tow, Mimey, who is also a welcome addition. Mimey essentially fills the role left by Ash’s mysteriously absent father, and is a hilarious sight with its exotic shirts and human behavior. Mimey was left with Ash towards the beginning of Pokémon Journeys, but fans were left wanting more.
