The Nanny

12 Important Life Lessons We Can All Learn From The Nanny

You remember Fran Fine from The Nanny, right? Of course you do — She had style! She had flair! She was there! But more than that — she’s the ’90s queen that will forever remain in our hearts as a style icon with a boldly vivid personality.

Anyone who has watched the The Nanny would know that two major things attributes to the show’s success: The undeniably sassy antics of Nanny Fine, and the love-hate (OK, mostly hate) relationship between Niles, the butler and C.C. Babcock. In other words, the series was swimming in sass, quick quips and gloriously satisfying insults.

With that said, let’s take a walk down memory lane and revisit The Nanny’s most memorable moments and some life advice you may or may not want to learn from.

1. Be good to your family

You may not realise it now, but there will come a point when you will need your family more than ever as you get older. As they always say, “Friends come and go, but family lasts forever..” So treat your family members right because who knows –in Fran’s voice– you might need an organ someday.

2. Be kind to people

Even if you don’t fancy someone, there is nothing wrong with helping a sister out when she clearly needs help. Plus, it’s a selfless way to receive good karma in return. Learn from Grandma Yetta who teaches C.C. Babcock a thing or two on how to attract men even though C.C always ill-treated her.

3. Have respect for yourself

Gracie sure knows it. Whether it’s someone you’ve just met, or someone you’re going to spend the rest of your life with — do not let yourself be taken advantage of. Even a 6 year old wouldn’t let it happen to her.

4. It’s okay to be extra

..fashionable. If someone drops a negative remark about your outfit, just do you as long as you feel good about it. They’re probably envious. We all know that Fran loves looking flashy, but has she ever had a problem with her self-esteem? Nope. 🎵 Be the lady in red when everyone else is wearing tan. 🎵

5. Friends don’t let friends make bad choices

Friendship 101: Never allow your friends to go out looking like trash, or post cringe-y photos on social media. Fran was always direct toward anyone who was about to make a grave mistake, because she feels as though it is her job to look out for others. She may not go about it in the right manner, but her heart surely is in the right place.

6. Make the best of the hand you’re dealt

When you’re facing an issue, don’t panic and never hesitate to use every resource you have at your disposal. Learn from Fran Fine who is aways quick to think of solutions whenever she lands herself into trouble. She usually digs her own grave though..

7. Self-reflect and figure out what keeps you sane.

Though Fran’s life isn’t always perfect, she gets right back up and tries again every time. Take a breather and do something that might help take you back to your happy place, because stressing out alone will make you even more distraught than you already are.

8. Love your mother

I mean, how could you not? Your mother is the one who gave you life in the first place. Fran and her pushy mother Sylvia fight and bicker often, but they love and respect each other dearly. Besides, aren’t most daughters the exact replica of their birth givers?

9. Always look for a cheaper way out

In a rough economic climate, save as much money as you can to weather it through. As a person who came from Flushing, Queens, Fran is known for her frugal – sometimes illicitly frugal – ways. The value of money clearly is important to her and she also hates when there is wastage.

10. When you’re on a diet, it’s okay to cheat a little

If you place a slice of pizza on top of another, your body is fooled into thinking there is only one slice. I think that’s one of the biggest lessons we can learn from Fran.

11. Don’t smoke cigarettes

Or you might end up with a few health complications..

12. Don’t let other people’s negativity affect you

Remember to stay true to yourself and your fabulousness will shine through. Fran has the most nasal voice in the world, but did she try and change it? Nope. It’s a part of her and she rolls with it. Fran never changed herself to fit in, and that’s the way it should be.

Aside the fact that Niles, the legendary butler, ended up marrying C.C. Babcock, his sworn enemy, The Nanny truly is an epic comedy series. Gotta thank Fran Fine for blessing our screens and inspiring us to do good deeds while looking fabulous all day, everyday!
