Breaking Bad: 10 Things You Didn’t Know About Los Pollos Hermanos

Los Pollos Hermanos with the fictional restaurant chain run by Gus Fring and has many interesting details surrounding it that fans may not know about.

Breaking Bad fans will always have fond memories of some specific locations, including the A1A Car Wash, the Albuquarqee desert, the White residence, and the Los Pollos Hermanos restaurant. Plenty of key events happened in these specific locations. Luckily, fans can still see more of Los Pollos Hermonos (the Chicken Brothers) in Better Call Saul.

Founded by Gus Fring and Max Arciniega, the restaurant chain is undoubtedly one of the greatest money laundering enterprises in the history of movies and TV. The restaurant made Gus Fring one of the most respected businessmen in Albuquerque. It’s also where the chaotic relationship between Walter White and Gus began.

Working Hours

An air freshener can be spotted on Gustavo Fring’s 1998 Volvo V70 a couple of times. On the back of the freshener, there is a Los Pollos Hermanos sticker which lists the flagship restaurant’s working hours.

According to the sticker, the restaurant opens from 7 AM to 10 PM (Monday – Thursday) 7 AM to 12 am (Friday – Saturday) and 7 AM to 9 PM on Sundays. The drive-thru is also open until 1 AM on Fridays. Those are plenty of hours and given that the restaurant is always full, Gus earns plenty of legitimate income too.

The Filming Location

Twisters aka Los Pollos Hermanos

The Los Pollos Hermanos scenes were filmed inside the New Mexican cuisine restaurant named Twisters. Apparently, the restaurant chain received a 10% increase in revenue thanks to its association with Breaking Bad.

Unlike Los Pollos Hermanos—which specializes in fried chicken—Twisters specializes in burritos and green chile cheeseburgers. There are also New Mexican staples such as tacos, sopapillas, fried apple bites, and enchiladas. Twisters actually made an appearance on El Camino since Los Pollos Hermanos had shut down after Gus Fring’s death.

The Restaurant’s Address

Gus GPS details on Breaking Bad

The address of the flagship restaurant is 12000 – 12100 Coors Rd SW, Albuquerque NM, 87045. This is according to information from the GPS tracking device that Hank asked Walt to place in Gus Fring’s Volvo. Hank put the tracking device in order to find out where Gus conducted most of his drug operations from.

The real-life address is 4257 Isleta Boulevard Southwest, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87105. This is where the Twisters restaurant where filming was done is located.

There Is A Los Pollos Web Series

Prior to Gus Fring’s appearance on Better Call Saul, AMC released a short web series called Los Pollos Hermanos Employee Training on its website. The web series consists of 10 minisodes.

In the short series, Gus Fring explains proper employee etiquette to the staff. Interestingly, he has a zero-tolerance drug policy for his employees. Most of them have no idea that he is a drug kingpin. Gus also teaches employees how to avoid harm from poisons, weapons, and box cutters.

Staff Size

Los Pollos Hermanos staff

There are a total of 11 employees at the flagship restaurant. The names of these employees can be seen on their tags at various stages of the AMC series.

The manager is named Cynthia. She is first introduced when Walt asks her about the manager (Gus) he had spoken to previously. She then informs him that the person he spoke with was the owner and not the manager. Other employees are Jill, Bob, Tim, Lucy, Mark Dwan, Trina, Jenn, Pat, and Lyle

The Restaurant’s Phone Number

When some of Gus Fring’s associates call him at the restaurant, the phone number shows on their phones as (505) 146-0195. Part of the reason why they call the restaurant is to prevent third parties from listening.

However, this isn’t a valid phone number. In the US, a phone number cannot have a 0 or a 1 as its fourth digit. The use of a fake phone number in the Breaking Bad universe is understandable because if it was real, fans would definitely be tempted to call and order chicken or make a business proposition,

American Platters

As seen in Season 4’s “Problem Dog” the restaurant only has a few American platters on its menu. The rest of the offerings are mostly inspired by South American cuisines.

The American platters that the restaurant serves are two egg specials with meat, 4-egg omelets. ham & cheddar bacon, cheddar sausage, and cheddar cheese. Since Gus and Max started Los Pollos Hermanos in their home country of Chile, it’s understandable that most of its offerings are non-American.

Number Of Branches

It’s suggested in the series that there are at least 16 branches of Los Pollos Hermanos. In Season 3’s “Kafkaesque,” it’s confirmed that there are locations in Alamogordo, Albuquerque, Brownfield, and Lubbock.

The map that Gomez shows Hank reveals locations in Abilene, Amarillo, Carlsbad, Colorado Springs, Farmington, Flagstaff, Las Cruces, Farmington, Odessa, Phoenix, St. George, and Tucson. In the prequel series Better Call Saul, there was another branch in Los Lunas which was destroyed by Gus and Nacho.

It’s Not The Only Restaurant Chain Under Madrigal Electromotive GmbH

Given how much focus the senior executives of Madrigal Electromotive GmbH such as Lydia and Peter Schuler place on Los Pollos Hermanos, one would assume it’s the only restaurant chain under the conglomerate. This is far from the case. The global cooperation has invested in 7 fast-food chains.

These include Los Pollos Hermanos, Polmieri Pizza, Stingin’ Rays, Whiskerstay’s, Luftwaffle, Haau Chuen Wok, and Burger Matic. The reason why Los Pollos gets favored is due to its status as a money-laundering hub.

You Can ‘Get’ Hired At Los Pollos

Not in the literal sense but there is a fake recruitment website for Los Pollos Hermanos. The website lphishiring.com is hosted by Breaking Bad’s network AMC.

The available jobs under “Job Listings” include Fry Cook, Executive Liaison to Owner/Proprietor (like Mike), Restaurant Manager, and Truck Driver. The latter has to be the most dangerous job, judging from events in the series. The website also states that the company’s motto is “Los Pollos Hermanos! Taste the Family!”
