Half-Pint is heading back to the farm!
A long-awaited reboot of the beloved series Little House on the Prairie is officially in the works, according to Entertainment Weekly. This is huge news for lifelong fans of the Ingalls family, like Ree Drummond.
“I grew up reading the Little House on the Prairie series,” Ree says. “I absolutely adored them.”
Paramount TV Studios and Anonymous Content are teaming up to create the hour-long drama series based off the original novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The books were adapted into a hit television show once before, which aired on NBC from 1974 to 1982. Now, decades later, Trip Friendly—whose father, Ed Friendly, bought the TV and movie rights to the Little House on the Prairie novels—is expected to serve as an executive producer on the upcoming project.
Each of the nine Little House on the Prairie books and the original TV series followed the life and adventures of the Ingalls family. Husband Charles Ingalls, his wife Caroline, and their three daughters—Mary, Laura, and Carrie—migrated westward in the 1800s to settle on a farm near the village of Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
Melissa Gilbert, who appeared as Laura in nearly every episode of the show, credits it with making her into the person she is today.
“The most formative years of my life—from the time I was nine until I was 19—were spent on that set,” Melissa told Parade. “I tell people sometimes that I didn’t grow up in the 1970s. I grew up in the 1870s. It’s who I am. That experience shaped me in a huge way as a professional, certainly, but also as a person. I don’t know who I would have been if I hadn’t had that show.”
The semi-autobiographical account of author Laura’s own childhood that is reflected in both the books and the TV show has been cherished for decades. Although the stories take place hundreds of years ago, they’re still relatable today—especially to someone like Ree!
And, even if you don’t have experience with life in the country, there are still plenty of important lessons to be learned from reading and watching Little House on the Prairie.
Stay tuned for more details on the reboot!
