All Breaking Bad Characters Appearing In Better Call Saul Season 5

Better Call Saul has slowly introduced more and more characters from Breaking Bad, and season 5 has more familiar faces than ever before.

Here’s every Breaking Bad character set to appear in the upcoming Better Call Saul season 5. When the Bob Odenkirk-fronted spinoff first aired, Better Call Saul smartly refrained from being too overt about its status as a Breaking Bad prequel, with the title character and Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut being the only two major returnees, alongside a smattering of less prominent characters. Once the spinoff had established itself as a successful series in its own right, however, the lines between Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul began to blur, with more familiar characters, more plot tie-ins and more black and white post-Breaking Bad scenes.

Better Call Saul is now confirmed to end after 2 more seasons, and the alignments with Breaking Bad are coming to the fore in earnest. After his brother’s death, Jimmy McGill’s transformation into the morally-flexible lawyer known as Saul Goodman was virtually completed by the end of season 4 and any aspirations he once held to become an honest, successful legal practitioner appear to have evaporated. Elsewhere, Gustavo Fring’s meth empire is really starting to cook, with season 4 chronicling the creation of the underground super-lab that provided a key setting of Breaking Bad. As Better Call Saul heads into its fifth season, here are all the Breaking Bad characters that’ll be making an appearance.

Breaking Bad Characters Debuting In Better Call Saul Season 5

Hank Schrader watches intently from his car in Breaking Bad.

Dean Norris as Hank Schrader – The big return in Better Call Saul season 5 is undoubtedly the DEA’s Hank Schrader. Walter White’s brother-in-law and a constant thorn in the side of Albuquerque’s drug industry, the ramping up of Gus’ operations make Hank a natural addition to Better Call Saul‘s final seasons. Hank was always one step behind Walt in Breaking Bad, and it’ll be fascinating to see him busting non-genius criminals more successfully in the prequel. Breaking Bad saw Hank suffer a series of defeats and setbacks until his eventual death, but Better Call Saul can take the character back to the brash, confident, unflappable Hank from early episodes.

Steven Michael Quezada as Steven Gomez – Naturally, Hank will be joined by his ever-present DEA partner, Steven “Gomie” Gomez, in Better Call Saul season 5. A largely peripheral (albeit fan favorite) character in Breaking Bad, the spinoff series will have an opportunity to explore Gomez in more detail, making his future death alongside Hank all the more crushing. As more criminals appear in Better Call Saul, it seems logical to counter that with a classic buddy cop dynamic in Hank and Gomie.

Robert Forster as Ed Galbraith – Forster already returned to the Breaking Bad story with 2019’s El Camino movie, but the actor tragically passed away just as the film was released. AMC have since revealed that Galbraith will posthumously appear in Better Call Saul season 5. Given Ed’s role in making people disappear, he could potentially feature in Better Call Saul‘s future timeline, which takes place after Breaking Bad, helping Saul with potentially being recognized. Alternatively, viewers could see some other Better Call Saul characters use Ed’s services, thus explaining their absence in Breaking Bad, or the spinoff could detail exactly how Jimmy and Ed first make each other’s acquaintance.

Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut – Better Call Saul is as much Mike’s story as it is Jimmy’s, and the hired gun with a heart is back again for season 5.

Giancarlo Esposito as Gustavo Fring – With The Mandalorian and The Boys, Esposito has a villainous 2020 ahead, and he is confirmed to be returning as a key figure in Better Call Saul season 5. Fring’s meth business is starting to take shape, with the chicken man tightening his grip on the state’s narcotics trade.

Lavell Crawford as Huell Babineaux – Better Call Saul has done wonders for the already-iconic Huell, and official images confirm Lavell Crawford is back in season 5, seemingly to help Jimmy conduct more wildly ambitious con jobs.

Also likely to return in Better Call Saul season 5 are Mark Margolis as Hector SalamancaLaura Fraser as Lydia Rodarte-Quayle and David Costabile as Gale Boetticher.
