Audrey Hepburn Life Story TV Series to be Penned by ‘The Good Wife’ Writer

Audrey Hepburn lived a fantastic, impactful life that ended way too soon. Now, the icon of movie and style is receiving the TV treatment.

According to Variety, Jacqueline Hoyt from The Good Wife will write the series on Aubrey Hepburn, who died in 1990 at age 63. Hoyt will work from a story pitch written by Luca Dotti, Hepburn’s son, and Italian journalist Luigi Spinola. The two wrote the 2015 book Audrey at Home. It was filled with personal details, including Hepburn’s favorite recipes, family photographs and letters.

Hoyt was a producer and writer for The Good Wife, a CBS show that ran from 2009-16. The show focused on Alicia Florrick, the wife of the Cooke County (Chicago) State’s Attorney who eventually became Illinois governor. Florrick, publicly, stuck by her husband as a good, political wife when he was sent to prison. But privately, she needed to work again to support her family. She dusted off her legal degree and began working at the firm along with her college boyfriend.

The show was nuanced, complicated and well written. It won five Emmys. So Hoyt is a good pick to tell the Audrey Hepburn story. Hoyt also worked on a number of other TV shows, including the Leftovers, CSI and Dietland.

There Will Be so Much Material for the Audrey Hepburn Series

Hoyt will have so much material to pull from to tell the Audrey Hepburn life story. She was an amazing actress.

Back in 1953, Hepburn became an undisputed star in Roman Holiday. She then became the first actress to win an Oscar, Golden Globe, and British Academy Film Award for the same role. That same year, she also won her first Tony.

Audrey Hepburn was nominated for four other Oscars for Sabrina, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Nun’s Story and Wait Until Dark.

Fashionwise, Hepburn perfected the little black dress. She sported ankle pants and adorned her outfits with the perfect scarf. Hepburn popularized the ballet flat. Designers loved to dress her, but she always erred for the side of simple elegance.

The private life of Audrey Hepburn also was filled with drama. She was married twice and was living with partner Robert Wolders when she died.

Hepburn was a woman of the world. She was a Belgian by birth. Her mother was Baroness Ella van Heemstra. Hepburn’s grandfather was a baron and a governor. Her childhood was spent in Brussels, London and the Netherlands. She could speak six languages.

After World War II ended, Audrey Hepburn and her mother and brothers moved to Amsterdam. Hepburn studied ballet there. Her parents had divorced and the family lost its fortune during the war. So Hepburn’s mother, the baroness, needed to work as a maid.

By the late 1960s, Audrey Hepburn went into semi-retirement. But she was hardly retired from life.

She became an ambassador for UNICEF, doing humanitarian work on behalf of the world’s children.

The Audrey Hepburn will be produced by Fremantle, which is based in London.
