Audrey Hepburn’s Son Reacts to Rooney Mara Playing His Mom in Upcoming Biopic

This week, Audrey Hepburn fans were thrilled to hear of an impending biopic about the iconic actress. According to Variety, the project will include Rooney Mara portraying Hepburn. Others connected to the project include Oscar-nominated director Luca Guadagnino. Additionally, Michael Mitnick, cowriter of The Giver is on board with the project writing the script.

After the announcement of the film, some Audrey Hepburn fans weren’t so sure about the casting of Mara in the role. And now, Hepburn’s son, Sean Hepburn Ferrer is speaking out about the upcoming film and the casting choices.

“I was not aware of the project,” Sean Hepburn Ferrer says of the upcoming film.

“Rooney is a delight,” he tells Fox News Digital of the actress set to play his mother. “Sounds like there is a lot of love there.”

Audrey Hepburn is one of the most iconic movie starlets of all time.

During her prolific Hollywood career, Hepburn earned a variety of awards, achieving the seemingly unattainable EGOT status by winning an Emmy, Oscar, Tony, and Grammy Award. Hepburn passed away in 1993 at age sixty-three after losing her battle with cancer.

While Sean Hepburn Ferrer was unaware of the upcoming film honoring his late mother, he has certainly been working to keep her stories alive in pop culture.

In 2020, Ferrer and his wife Karin teamed up to author a book about his mother’s childhood in Holland; and her fantasies of a future that made the tough times more bearable. The book is titled Little Audrey’s Daydream.

Hepburn Ferrer has said that his favorite memories of his mother were the moments he “made her laugh.”

“Whenever I would make her laugh, she would really laugh from her stomach,” Hepburn’s son remembers of his famous mother.

“It’s one of the greatest things you can take from any relationship,” Hepburn Ferrer continues. “If you can make someone laugh and give them that moment of sunshine.”

Hepburn Ferrer says that he hoped the book he’d written about his mother would “shed a light” on the history Audrey Hepburn had before she became one of Hollywood’s most famous faces.

“But there are many moments I think about,” Hepburn’s son says.

“I think about when she drove me to the airport and I left to do my first job. I was walking through security and when I turned around, there were tears coming down her face,” Hepburn Ferrer recalls.

“As a parent and having been through it, I now understand,” he adds. “But I take great comfort in those moments when I simply made her laugh.”

During her time in Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn captivated audiences in a variety of unforgettable performances. Her name is synonymous with films such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s, My Fair Lady, Sabrina, and Funny Face.
