Bo-Katan’s Mandalorian Season 3 Journey Teased By Star

Bo-Katan Kryze actor Katee Sackhoff teases her fan-favorite character's continuing journey and evolution in The Mandalorian season 3.

Katee Sackhoff teases Bo-Katan’s continuing journey in The Mandalorian season 3. Sackhoff’s stint as Bo-Katan Kryze began when she first voiced the character for a 2012 episode of the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The mysterious Mandalorian later returned for Star Wars: Rebels.

Of course live-action Bo-Katan later became a reality as well, when Sackhoff debuted the character in The Mandalorian season 2. In her first memorable Mandalorian episode “The Heiress,” Bo-Katan helped Din Djarin gain information on a Jedi he sought in exchange for his aid in taking over an Imperial freighter filled with weapons. Then in the Mandalorian season 2 finale “The Rescue,” Bo-Katan helped Djarin save Grogu from the clutches of Moff Gideon, while she herself sought to regain possession of the sacred Mandalorian weapon the Darksaber. As it happened, Djarin would himself come into possession of the Darksaber after besting Gideon. When Djarin tried to hand the prize over to Bo-Katan, she refused on the grounds that the Darksaber must be won in battle.

All these dramatic Mandalorian season 2 developments certainly left Bo-Katan and Din Djarin in an interesting place, with the potential to become enemies or allies in the future. While not giving away any specifics about how things play out between Kryze and Djarin in The Mandalorian season 3, Sackhoff did tease that Bo-Katan has unfinished business to attend to when she returns. “She’s not done,” Sackhoff told ET. She added that Kryze’s decision not to take the Darksaber from Djarin “makes us question, it makes her question, ‘What’s different? Why not now?’ And that’s important.” Sackhoff went on:

“She’s still on that journey, you know, from the first time that we met her when she was very young and impressionable. And she’s been continuing to evolve and grow and figure out who she is.”

Indeed fans have gone on a long journey with Bo-Katan from her early days in animated form in The Clone Wars to her live-action incarnation. During that time, it’s been revealed that Kryze at one time possessed the Darksaber and led the planet of Mandalore. But later the Empire, led by Moff Gideon, destroyed the Mandalorian homeworld and stole the Darksaber. Now Bo-Katan has made it her mission to restore Mandalore, and that begins with regaining its sacred symbol of power. But things obviously became complicated when Din Djarin came into possession of the Darksaber himself.

Fans are now left to wonder if Djarin will truly take on the responsibility that comes with possessing the Darksaber and join Bo-Katan in her quest to take back Mandalore. Obviously the two would be powerful if they were to join forces. But it would be equally dramatic if circumstances forced Bo-Katan to battle Djarin in order to rightfully regain possession of the weapon. No doubt the personal evolution Sackhoff referred to in her remarks about Bo-Katan’s ongoing journey will play a part in how things work out between her and the current owner of the Darksaber. No matter how things ultimately shake out, it seems The Mandalorian season 3 will be a great gift for fans of Sackhoff and Bo-Katan as the character continues to grow and change.
