Did ‘Game Of Thrones’ Actually Film Multiple Endings And Still Pick The Wrong One?

According to the words from Emilia Clarke and HBO President, Casey Bloys, it does seem like alternate endings of 'Game Of Thrones' were shot.

Game of Thrones is the perfect example of a show that had everything going for it while it was in its prime. No matter what came its way, things worked out for the best. The show almost had an entirely different cast, with Emilia Clarke even blowing her audition. Nevertheless, things fell perfectly into place for the show, which dominated TV for years on end.

As great as things were going, the show notoriously crashed and burned, and fans still wish it had a better ending. For years, it was alleged that different endings were filmed. Is it possible that this show had multiple endings and picked the worst of the bunch?

Let’s take a look and see if this was the case.

Game Of Thrones’ Was A Powerhouse In Its Prime

When looking at the history of the biggest shows of all time, there aren’t many that come close to matching the insane peak of Game of Thrones.

Based on a successful book series, Game of Thrones made it way to HBO and became a powerhouse in its prime. It was a series that seemingly everyone was watching, and each season seemed to grow more popular than the one before it.

This show genuinely had it all. It featured a compelling story, a dynamic cast, and a production team that could bring out the best of it all. A series like this does not come around often, which is why people were so hooked on what they were watching. Simply put, it was perfect storm that was an unstoppable force, and people consumed every second of it.

For a total of 8 seasons, Game of Thrones continued on its march while leaving behind the rest of the pack. Eventually, it was time for the show to reach its conclusion, and the conversation that was ignited was one that was fueled with an unending amount of disappointment.

The Ending Soured Fans On The Show

Sticking the landing is tough for any show, but few go down in infamy as notoriously as Game of Thrones.

At its peak, this was the most popular show in existence, with some believing that it was setting itself up to go down as the greatest show of all time. A few lackluster seasons gave way to a disastrous final season, which was capped off with a finale that left the world screaming in anger.

Despite the backlash, series star Peter Dinklage has continued to defend the show, even managing to ruffle some feathers a few months ago.

“They wanted the pretty white people to ride off into the sunset together,” he said about the fans and their backlash.

“By the way, it’s fiction. There’s dragons in it. Move on. No, but the show subverts what you think, and that’s what I love about it,” he continued.

It’s a shame that things played out in such a negative way, because at one point, the hype was through the roof. It was during this time that the idea of the show filming multiple endings began to surface.

Did The Crew Film Actually Multiple Endings?

For some time, the fact that Game of Thrones filmed multiple endings was a topic of discussion, though there always seemed to be some mystery around what exactly was going on behind the scenes.

“I think they’re filming a bunch of stuff and they’re not telling us. I’m being serious. I’m being deadly serious. I think that they don’t even trust us. There’s lots of different endings that could happen; I think we’re doing all of them and we aren’t being told which is actually what’s going to happen,” said Emilia Clarke.

Even HBO President, Casey Bloys, initially gave the impression that this was the case. This, however, was something that he changed his tune about later on.

“I don’t think they actually shot multiple endings. But putting that in the water supply wasn’t a bad thing to protect against leaks. They always had a little bit of edge of doubt because you couldn’t be totally sure,” HBO President Casey Bloys said to Deadline.

In 2018, Maisie Williams touched on this subject.

“I heard this and I thought, ‘I don’t think we’ve got the budget to shoot lots of different endings,’” she explained. “But as we know, sometimes Presidents don’t always tell the truth,” she said.

It sure does not seem like the folks making Game of Thrones filmed a bunch of different endings, but many former fans still feel like the show botched its conclusion.
