Downton Abbey: A New Era Trailer: The Crawleys’ Home Is A Movie Set

Take a trip back in time with the latest trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era, which reunites audiences with the Crawleys and their downstairs staff.

The Crawleys and their beloved staff members return for another adventure in the latest trailer for Downton Abbey: A New Era. The beloved television series continues to live on through movies following the hit 2019 film. The first Downton Abbey movie grossed an impressive $194.6 million worldwide, proving the ensemble period drama could thrive on the big screen as well. Now the entire original cast returns for A New Era, which was recently delayed for a second time. Focus Features bumped the highly anticipated sequel from March to May, at least for the U.S.; it will premiere in April for the U.K.

Downton Abbey: A New Era brings back much of the cast of the first movie and adds a few newcomers. Hugh Dancy, Dominic West, Nathalie Baye, and Laura Haddock are among the fresh faces joining the Crawleys for this new tale. As the first Downton Abbey: A New Era trailer revealed, the story will partially revolve around a surprise acquisition for the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith): A villa in France, left to her by a man she once knew. Additionally, A New Era will see another wedding take place at Downton as Tom Branson (Allen Leech) marries Lucy (Tuppence Middleton) following their budding courtship from the first movie.

Fans can now learn more about Downton Abbey: A New Era, as Focus Features has unveiled a new trailer for the film. It offers a bit more insight into the overall plot, reveals the roles the newcomers will inhabit, and ends with a classic quip from the Dowager herself. Check it out below.

The A New Era trailer has two main focuses: the Dowager’s mysterious past, and the movie that’s setting up camp at Downton. In regards to the latter, that is where most of the new characters come in. Dancy plays the producer and director of a film that wants to use Downton as its set, while Haddock and West are the stars. Unsurprisingly, the movie causes quite a stir for the residents of Downton Abbey, with some reacting more positively than others. It looks like A New Era will really make good on its name as the characters are once again forced to confront the changing times, now through the evolution of entertainment.

As for the Dowager Countess, the Downton Abbey 2 trailer puts a bit more intrigue into her situation with the surprise villa. As Edith (Laura Carmichael) point out, that the Dowager kept this part of her life a secret might not bode well for the family. It’s hard to imagine Violet Crawley doing anything truly scandalous, but perhaps Downton Abbey: A New Era will reveal something new. Either way, fans of the show have much to look forward to with this long-awaited film.
