Elvis Presley Biopic: See First Look at Actor Playing the King

Fans of the King of Rock and Roll can finally get a look as “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Actor” Austin Butler brings Elvis Presley back to life on the big screen.

Butler stars in the upcoming biopic film directed by Baz Luhrmann (“The Great Gatsby,” “Romeo + Juliet,” and “Moulin Rouge!”). Luhrmann just shared the first look at some of the footage from the currently unnamed movie.

Footage of Upcoming Elvis Presley Biopic

The footage appears to be out of the late 1960s. It’s possible that the movie will cover multiple timelines of the King’s life — from gaining fame to then becoming one of the most-listened-to artists at the time with flocks of enthusiastic fans.

Butler will also star in the movie alongside Tom Hanks as Colonel Tom Parker, Presley’s mysterious and often problematic manager.

“Made a little something to let you good people know we are taking care of business on June 24, 2022,” Luhrmann tweeted to his followers on Twitter. This is the expected release date for the unnamed film as of now. Luhrmann is known for his flamboyant directing style that is highly individualized.

The first clip is set to the song “Suspicious Minds.” Elvis Presley released the song in 1969. By the looks of it, Luhrmann is touching on quite a few major parts of Presley’s life. One of which is the influential ’68 Comeback Special that helped launch Elvis into an international success. There are also shots of Butler wearing an all-white jumpsuit, which Elvis was known for rocking during his days on stage.

The 21-second clip ends with “TCB” showing up on the screen, which stands for “taking care of business.” It was Elvis Presley’s motto and his nickname for his band.

In addition to directing, Luhrmann is also a co-writer and producer of the movie. The screenplay was also co-written by Sam Bromell, Craig Pierce, and Jeremy Doner.

Timeline and Details for Austin Butler-Led Movie

According to Deadline, similar to other films, the upcoming Elvis Presley biopic has faced several delays. The movie was originally going to come out on June 3 but got pushed back to June 24. Now the movie is going to have to battle Reese Witherspoon’s “Where the Crawdads Sings.”

So far, we know that the movie is going to focus a lot on the enigmatic manager and his relationship with Presley over the course of 20 years. The relationship will shift as Presley reaches an absolutely unprecedented level of fame. Parker was not a real colonel, but he discovered Presley in 1955 and latched onto him early in his career. Also an important part of the movie will be Elvis’ relationship with Priscilla Presley (played by Olivia DeJonge).

Yola Quarterly will be Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Luke Bracey will play Jery Schilling, and Kevin Harrison Jr. will play B.B. King.
