Everything We Know About 1883 Season 2

1883 has been renewed for a second season. Here's everything we know about 1883 season 2's potential release date, story, characters, and more.

1883 season 2 will open the next chapter in the story of the Duttons of Yellowstone. In the wake of Elsa’s (Isabel May) death, the Duttons are faced with the new challenge of settling the land where Elsa chose to be buried. 1883 is the first Yellowstone spinoff series to be released by creator Taylor Sheridan, and it has performed impressively on Paramount+.

1883 tells the story of the very beginnings of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. In 1883, Sheridan shares directorial duties with television producer and cinematographer Ben Richardson, whom Sheridan has worked with in his films Wind River and Those Who Wish Me Dead. Also sharing the director’s chair is cinematographer Christina Alexandra Voros, who has worked on several episodes of Yellowstone.

1883 season 2 will continue the story of how the Duttons began their ranching empire in Montana. Apart from the Duttons, the story will likely also include what happens to the surviving cast members of 1883 who chose to settle in Oregon. Here’s everything else that we know about 1883 season 2.

Is 1883 Season 2 Happening?

Paramount has officially confirmed that 1883 season 2 is happening. As Paramount is also working on Sheridan’s new Yellowstone spinoff 1932, it might be some time before 1883 season 2 gets released on Paramount+ and other streaming platforms. However, the good news is that the second season of 1883 will definitely be pushing through.

1883 Season 2 Cast: Which Characters Can Return?

Any of the surviving cast members could return for 1883 season 2. This includes James (Tim McGraw), Margaret, (Faith Hill), John Dutton Sr. (Audie Rick), Thomas (LaMonica Garrett), the Romani settler Noemi (Gratiela Brancusi) and her kids, and the German settler Josef (Marc Rissman). Spenser Dutton (Charlie Stover), who first appeared in the 1883 backdoor pilot in Yellowstone season 4, will also likely be joining the cast of 1883 season 2, and actor Jack Michael Doke could play the slightly older version of John Dutton Sr.

1883 Season 2 Story: What Season 1 Sets Up

While the Duttons build the foundations of what will eventually become the largest contiguous ranch in the U.S., Thomas, Noemi, and Josef settle and eke out a living in Oregon. 1883‘s cast of characters will no longer be facing a dangerous journey into the unknown. However, they will be meeting new challenges like defending their ranches and homesteads from bandits, getting to know the land, and interacting with the Indigenous American tribes with whom they share Oregon and Montana. At the turn of the 19th century, the industrialization of America is at its peak, and the invention of barbed wire enables settlers and ranchers to claim large swathes of territory across the frontier.

1883 Season 2 Release Date Prediction

1883, the first season of which was concluded in February 2022, could be released as early as the middle of 2023. However, there’s also a possibility that 1883 season 2 could come out as late as 2024. This is because apart from 1883, Taylor Sheridan is also working on the first seasons of two different Yellowstone spinoffs: 6666 and 1932 – on top of producing Yellowstone season 5. In the meantime, latecomers to the show can still watch and catch up with 1883 season 1 online.
