Everything We Know About Yellowstone Season 5

Yellowstone season 4 ended with Market Equities threatening to swallow up both the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and the Broken Rock Indian Reservation.

Yellowstone season 5 will be arriving soon – but what details have been released about the incoming season? Audiences cannot get enough of the acclaimed contemporary Western series by Taylor Sheridan, which has been a major success for streaming platform Paramount+. In fact, Yellowstone has already inspired two series spinoffs: 1883, a period drama that serves as a prequel to Yellowstone, and 6666, an upcoming series that’s about Texas’ Four Sixes Ranch. Despite these expansions to Sheridan’s neo-Western universe, fans are still clamoring for the next season of Yellowstone.

Yellowstone season 4 ended with the residents of Montana facing the biggest challenge of their lives. The billionaire-funded investment firm Market Equities is intent on claiming large swathes of land to build an airport, develop a city, and threaten not just the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch but every other ranch in the valley. Meanwhile, the Duttons are on the way to claiming the governorship of Montana, and seems to be ready to strike an alliance with the Broken Rock Indian Reservation against their larger mutual enemy.

Yellowstone season 5 will continue to explore the same political themes that the series has tackled heavily during its previous seasons. While the Yellowstone prequel 1883 reveals how the Duttons first journeyed to Montana to start what would become one of the largest contiguous cattle ranches in the U.S., Yellowstone season 5 will further explore how the ranching business has evolved in the modern world, as the Duttons continue their fight against both billionaire land developers and the people of the First Nations who originally owned the contested lands. Here’s everything that Sheridan and Paramount+ has revealed about Yellowstone season 5.

Yellowstone Season 5 Renewal

On February 3, 2022, Yellowstone was officially renewed for a fifth season. Yellowstone season 5 will begin filming on May 2022, which means that it could be released later this year. That being said, there’s been no word yet from Paramount+ regarding the official release date of Yellowstone season 5.

Yellowstone Season 5 Cast: Who Will Return?

Everyone in the main cast survived the finale of Yellowstone season 4. This means that John (Kevin Costner), Beth (Kelly Reilly), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Kayce (Luke Grimes), and Monica Dutton (Kelsey Asbille) will be reprising their respective roles. The same will be true for Broken Rock Indian Reservation mainstays Chief Thomas Rainwater (Gil Burmingham) and Mo (Moses Brings Plenty), as well as Dutton ranch cowboys Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Lloyd Pierce (Forrie J. Smith), and Carter (Finn Little). Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner (Jacki Weaver) and Governor Lynelle Perry (Wendy Moniz) will also be returning.

Yellowstone Season 5 Story: What Season 4 Set Up

Market Equities CEO Caroline Warner is throwing billions into their efforts to develop a city with a renewed vigor, powered by her personal vendetta with Beth, whose betrayal halted Market Equities’ plans and cost the company millions. Meanwhile, John Dutton is running to become the next governor of Montana, which would give him the power to preserve the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Moreover, as the bitter sibling rivalry between Beth and Jamie ended with Beth and John having full control over Jamie, the Duttons could control both the offices of the governor and the attorney general of Montana by the end of Yellowstone season 5. The Broken Rock Indian Reservation is bound to have a bigger role in the ensuing struggle as well, especially since Kayce just finished the warrior initiation rites to become a full member of his wife Monica’s tribe. If Market Equities pushes through with its plans, Chief Thomas Rainwater might just bring back the corporate lawyer Angela Blue Thunder (Q’orianka Kilcher), which could give the Broken Rock Indian Reservation an edge in the coming war.

Yellowstone Season 5 Release Date Prediction

As Yellowstone season 5 will start production this May, the soonest fans can hope to see the new season is November 2022, similar to the timeline for Yellowstone season 4. Considering the show’s success on streaming platforms Paramount + and NBC Peacock, Yellowstone season 5 is bound to be released on either late 2022 or early 2023. In the meantime, fans can check out the Yellowstone prequel spinoff 1883 and look forward to the upcoming spinoff 6666.
