“The Nanny” star Renée Taylor stepped out to support Fran Drescher at a stand-up comedy show in Brooklyn on Tuesday night.
Taylor, who played Fran Fine’s (Drescher) mom, Sylvia Fine, on the hit series, attended the “Women of a Certain Age” show at The Bell House to support her former co-star, who opened the show. Other performers were Luenell, Lynne Koplitz, Carole Montgomery, Kerri Louise and Vanessa Hollingshead.
At the end of the show when all of the performers returned to the stage to take a bow, the evening’s host, Montgomery, announced there was a “The Nanny” reunion and pointed out 85-year-old Taylor in the audience. The venue erupted in applause as an elated Drescher, 61, looked at her good friend and former co-worker.
Actress Brooke Shields also attended the event, as well as former “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy” star Carson Kressley. Shields was spotted running backstage after her friend Koplitz finished her set. While backstage, Montgomery joked to “gorgeous” Shields that she could only come back there if she put a bag over her head.
“She responded, ‘As long as I can put lipstick on the bag.’ She’s a funny gal,” Montgomery told us after the show.
A great friend, Shields steamed Koplitz’s dress prior to her performance.
Montgomery also told Page Six that all of the performers are her close friends who understand her mission to show that women, no matter how young or old they are, are funny, too.
“I just really wanted to work with my friends and I have really funny friends,” she shared ahead of the event. “The women on my show are all veteran, veteran headliners.”
Montgomery added, “Everyone understands and gets what I’m trying to do, so they want to do the show.”
The show, which also was being taped for a Showtime special, was sold out.
