Game of Thrones Star John Stahl Dies

Actor John Stahl, known for his performances in shows such as Game of Thrones and High Road, dies at the age of 68.

It was recently announced that actor John Stahl has died. The actor was 68 years old.

While the actor passed on March 2, the announcement came via the National Theatre of Scotland, with which Stahl worked frequently, on March 5. “We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of John Stahl,” the theater wrote. “We were fortunate to work with John on Mary Stuart and The James Plays. His passing is a huge loss to the industry, and he will be sorely missed.”

In a statement, Stahl’s agent, Amanda Fitzalan Howard, said he was “an actor of remarkable skill and a stalwart of Scottish theatre… He died on the [Scottish] Isle of Lewis on March 2 2022 and is survived by his wife, Jane Paton.”

The actor is best known for his performance on HBO’s Game of Thrones, in which he played Rickard Karstark– and embittered ally of House Stark. The role was played by actor Steven Blount in Season 1 before being taken over by Stahl for Season 2 and 3.

Beyond the now-concluded series, Stahl appeared in the soap opera Take the High Road (later name High Road) as Tom Kerr aka “Inverdarroch.” He featured in the Scottish show from its fifth season in 1982 until its end in 2003.
