Hawaii Five-0 Adds 3 New Cast Members for Season 8 After Major Exits

Bealah Koale, Meaghan Rath and Ian Anthony Dale are joining the cast of Hawaii Five-0 season 8, following two major cast member exits.

Following the exits of two main cast members, Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim, CBS police action series Hawaii Five-0 has added three new regulars who will join the cast in the show’s eighth season. Ian Anthony Dale has been upgraded from a recurring character to the main cast, while Meaghan Rath and Beulah Koale will play new characters.

Ian Anthony Dale has played Adam Noshimuri since Season 2. Noshimuri was introduced as a member of the Yakuza, who soon becomes the gang’s boss following the death of his father. Noshimuri eventually broke away from his criminal roots and started a relationship with Kono, Grace Park’s character. The two have been married since the end of Season 5. It’s not clear yet what Kono’s absence will mean for Dale’s character going forward. Dale is currently starring in the series Salvation.

According to The Wrap, Being Human star Meaghan Rath will join the series as Tani Rey, “a hotel lifeguard who was kicked out of the Police Academy, despite being a first-rate candidate.” Rath was recently a regular in the fourth season of the police drama series, Rogue.

New Zealand-born actor Beulah Koale will play Junior Reigns, “a former Navy SEAL who has just returned from serving his country and asks McGarrett for a job.” Koale has worked mostly in short films and projects based in New Zealand, and will not be well-known to American audiences. However, Koale will star in the upcoming biographical war film, Thank You for Your Service.

It was recently announced that series stars Grace Park and Daniel Dae Kim would be leaving the show after seven seasons due to payment disputes. The departure of such important, fan-favorite characters has certainly left a gap in the show, one that will have to be filled by the two new characters – as well as Dale’s character, who as a member of the main cast will receive a significant boost in screen-time.

It should also be noted that the new additions may also solve another problem that has become a point of criticism aimed at CBS after the decision was made to move on without Park and Kim: some viewers, including U.S. Rep Grace Ming (D-NY) said she was “disturbed” by the reports that the Asian-American actors were not receiving equal pay. Adding Dale, Rath, and Koale, who all come from different ethnic backgrounds, may clear up any lingering issues over diversity in the cast.
