House of the Dragon Trailer Update Given By HBO Exec

HBO and HBO Max's programming chief Casey Bloys opens up about the release of the trailer for Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon.

HBO and HBO Max’s programming chief Casey Bloys has opened up about the release of the trailer for Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon. The prequel series follows an earlier generation of House Targaryen, based upon the novel Fire & Blood written by series creator George R.R. Martin. The series stars Paddy Considine, Emma D’Arcy, Olivia Cooke, Matt Smith, and Rhys Ifans.

Based on the 2018 novel, House of the Dragon depicts House Targaryen’s fall from grace and power two centuries before the events of the original series and the rise of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). Considine plays the current king of the Seven Kingdoms, King Viserys I Targaryen, while Matt Smith plays his brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, and Emma D’Arcy plays his firstborn child and heir, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen. Building up until the Targaryen Civil War known as “The Dance of Dragons,” Martin claims to have seen the first House of the Dragon episode in a rough form, but fans have yet to get a glimpse of any new footage. With many of the years’ most anticipated shows revealing their own trailers, HBO Max’s programming chief has given an update on when the first trailer for the Game of Thrones prequel might be released.

Speaking to THR, Bloys was asked about when fans can expect to see House of the Dragon’s trailer following the releases of Halo and, The Rings of Power’s trailers, as well as whether the show would have a presence at San Diego Comic-Con. Bloys first revealed that he currently is unaware of a possible Comic-Con presence, stating their plans hadn’t been revealed. The programming chief then elaborated that it shouldn’t be long until some material is released. Check out Bloys’ full response below:

“I don’t know about Comic-Con; we haven’t announced any of our plans yet. I don’t even want to say “soon” but you’ll start to see material … if I say “soon,” I’ll leave that vague. So maybe soon.”

This latest update comes following a previous statement by Ifans in December, who stated House of the Dragon was still filming. Despite not having any idea when new promotional material will release, the actor did share his excitement for the upcoming series, carefully avoiding spoiling any potential details. Ifans hasn’t been the only star associated with the franchise to share his excitement for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, as Peter Dinklage has also discussed the upcoming series. When discussing the shortcomings of following up a huge hit like Game of Thrones successfully, Dinklage stated that he was excited to be able to watch House of the Dragon as a fan with no insight on what was to come.

While HBO is planning more spin-offs than Martin expected, many fans are curious to see whether House of the Dragon can recapture the magic of the earlier seasons of Game of Thrones. While the series was a hit throughout much of its run, the eighth and final season was met with much criticism for how it resolved the characters’ stories. With HBO’s ambitious plans and having to move beyond season 8’s drawbacks, many fans are keen to see how House of the Dragon will compare to its predecessor.
