How Fast The Mandalorian’s Naboo Starfighter Is

Din Djarin gets a new ship in The Book of Boba Fett, but how fast is The Mandalorian's modified Naboo N1 Starfighter compared to others?

Din Djarin acquires a new starship in The Book of Boba Fett, a Naboo N1 Starfighter that’s been modified to be far faster than the standard model and replaces the ship seen in The Mandalorian. Din Djarin’s original ship, the Razor Crest, was destroyed by Moff Gideon’s light cruiser in The Mandalorian season 2, leading him to seek a new ship in The Book of Boba Fett. Thanks to Peli Motto, Djarin has not only a sleek new starfighter, but one that Motto heavily modified to suit his need for quick escapes and space battles.

The N1 Starfighter made its debut in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace as the fighter craft of Naboo’s Royal Security Forces. Fast, powerful, and elegantly designed, the N1 fighters were used against the Trade Federation space forces during the Invasion of Naboo. The N1 Starfighter was also a key vehicle for players in Legends-era video games like Star Wars: Starfighter and Star Wars: Episode I: Battle for Naboo.

N1 Starfighters were already known for their speed, but Peli Motto modified Din Djarin’s N1 fighter to be “faster than a fathier,” using parts from other vehicles, including a Pyke Syndicate hovertrain. Once completed, Din Djarin’s N1 Starfighter could easily speed past a pair of New Republic X-Wing fighters, as shown later in the episode. According to 2015’s Star Wars: Ships of the Galaxy, the T-65B X-Wing had a maximum atmospheric speed of 1050 KPH (roughly 652.5 MPH) while the book lists the standard N1 Starfighter as having a maximum speed of 1100 KPH (about 684 MPH). Peli Motto made Din Djarin’s vessel significantly faster than the standard N1, upgrading the engines and removing superfluous weight. While the chase occurred in space, Djarin easily sped away from pursuing X-Wings. While the exact specifications of the modified N1 are unknown, its ability to outrun T-65B X-Wings with ease makes it far superior to the standard N1.

In A New Hope’s trench run sequence, standard TIE Fighters, whose maximum atmospheric speed is 1200 KPH (roughly 745 MPH) according to TIE Fighter Owners’ Workshop Manual, gradually caught up with standard X-Wings going at full throttle. Djarin’s N1, notably, also included an additional engine unit, which the removed astromech droid socket likely allowed for. Until exact specifications for Djarin’s modified N1 are released, it’s reasonable to assume that his ship can fly at about twice the speed of the standard N1.

While Din Djarin’s new starfighter is an incredibly fast and maneuverable vessel, it’s fundamentally inefficient for his bounty hunting career. Assuming that Djarin will continue mercenary work in The Mandalorian season 3, he may end up acquiring another vessel with enough room for living quarters, an armory, a cargo hold, and a small hangar to dock his N1 Starfighter. While not ideal for a bounty hunter, Din Djarin’s new ship is incredibly fast, as demonstrated in The Book of Boba Fett.
