How Powerful Is Grogu After Training With Luke Skywalker?

Grogu only spent a short time training with Luke Skywalker as seen in The Book of Boba Fett, but how strong did he actually become with the Force?

Grogu previewed his Force powers in The Mandalorian, but The Book of Boba Fett teased The Child’s newfound strength following his time training with Luke Skywalker. Both Grogu and Luke made surprising appearances in The Book of Boba Fett episode 6, with the former also showing up in the series finale of the Disney+ series. He may not have received immense screentime, but there were indicators that some of Luke’s training proved successful.

Grogu was deemed special before he officially made his onscreen debut in The Mandalorian, but the fact that he was proven to be Force-sensitive made the small figure even more noteworthy. In The Mandalorian season 1, Grogu memorably lifted a large mudhorn off the ground, healed Din Djarin’s injuries, choked Cara Dune, and redirected flamethrower fire from Incendiary trooper with his Force powers. Those abilities took a toll on the foundling, but he managed to show even greater strength in The Mandalorian season 2. Aside from communicating telekinetically with Ahsoka Tano and crafting a Force shield while meditating, Grogu attacked two stormtrooper guards in his holding cell with just his mind. The high count of midi-chlorians also made Grogu a target in the first place, reiterating how strong he may become.

It was Grogu’s Force-sensitivity and potential that led him to end up with Luke at the conclusion of The Mandalorian season 2. As Ahsoka suggested, Grogu needed to be with his own kind, receiving guidance. As much as it hurt Din, he let The Child go, but the progress of Luke’s training wasn’t revealed until The Book of Boba Fett’s “Chapter 6: From the Desert Comes a Stranger.” Luke was shown teaching Grogu how to calmly meditate while harnessing the Force. To go deeper, the iconic Star Wars figure encouraged Grogu to revisit his memories as a way to feed into what he’s truly capable of. In doing so, Grogu began using the Force to balance and leap. Though Grogu chose to return to Din, forgoing any further Jedi training, he was significantly stronger than when he and Luke first met. That said, Grogu will certainly need more time and training if he decides to heavily rely on his Force powers.

Though Grogu has grown and experienced a lot since he first encountered Din, the little creature still has a lot to learn. The training from Luke paid off in some aspects, but he’s still nowhere near his full potential. In The Book of Boba Fett season 1 finale, Grogu reunited with Din in Mos Espa just in time to help fight the Pykes. At one point, Grogu helped destroy a scorpion-like Scorpenek droid while also using the Force to put a gigantic Rancor to sleep. The fact that Grogu didn’t immediately pass out after successfully putting the beast to sleep showed how far he has come since dealing with the mudhorn. This also proved that Grogu took a least some of Luke’s training to heart despite not being fully committed to the cause.

Just because Grogu picked Din over Luke, it doesn’t mean the Force-sensitive character will stop utilizing his powers. Din will make sure to give him opportunities to enhance his skills while prioritizing his safety. There’s also a chance the duo could run into other Jedi willing to help in a limited capacity. The Mandalorian season 3 and beyond will surely follow Grogu’s growth, mentally and physically, in connection to the Force. Even if he never gets legitimate training from another Jedi teacher, there are still avenues Grogu can take to become one of the strongest Force-sensitive characters in Star Wars history. In fact, the opportunity for Grogu to become the next Mandalorian Jedi still exists, considering his link to Din and his lengthy lifespan. The Book of Boba Fett laid the groundwork, but it will be up to future projects to show what Grogu could truly become.
