The Mandalorian fan art puts Din Djarin, Grogu, Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano inside a famous painting. Disney+ kicked off the era of Star Wars streaming with 2019’s smash hit series following the out-of-this-world adventures of bounty hunter Din Djarin and his orphan charge Baby Yoda. The Mandalorian season 2 later expanded the streaming universe, bringing in already-established fan-favorite characters like Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett and others.

Of course The Mandalorian season 2 was far from the end for expansion of the Star Wars universe on Disney+. 2021 saw the arrival of The Book of Boba Fett, a standalone adventure for the still-living bounty hunter first introduced in Star Wars’ original trilogy. And there are also plans for Mandaorian guest star Ahsoka Tano to get her own streaming show, with Rosario Dawson returning to reprise the role of the one-time Jedi Padawan first introduced on the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

The Star Wars universe as depicted in all those popular shows, not to mention the movies, is of course a place full of action and adventure. As a result, its characters seldom get peaceful moments to kick back and enjoy the simpler things in life. But for once that’s all changed, thanks to fan artist scadarts, who created a new mash-up image that places Mandalorian characters Din Djarin, Grogu, Boba Fett and Ahsoka Tano inside Edward Hopper’s famously serene painting “Nighthawks.” See the cool and relaxing image in the space below:

It’s of course a little incongruous to see characters from the Star Wars universe in a painting made on Earth in 1942. But the concept of camaraderie is of course universal, and a feeling of closeness and friendship indeed comes across in the above image. But clearly there’s something melancholy about the image too, just as there is with Hopper’s original painting.

The snapshot quality of Hopper’s painting of course invites one to imagine who the characters in it might be and what they might be off to do after leaving the diner. When it comes to the Mandalorian characters depicted in the above fan-made image, it’s easy to imagine their quiet evening being broken up by the arrival of some horrible villain like Moff Gideon or Cad Bane, leading to an epic shoot-out in the street. Or maybe for once there’s a little peace in the Star Wars universe and everyone gets to go on quietly drinking their coffee and conversing under the watchful eye of the droid waiter also depicted in the scene. Either way, this new fan image is a fun way to enjoy Din Djarin and friends in an interesting and unusual setting.
