Sophia Loren’s Anti-Aging Secret Is an ‘Odd’ Bath

There’s no question that Sophia Loren is considered one of the most gorgeous women in the world. From her Hollywood starlet days in the 1960s to her dazzling red carpet walks today at age 84, the screen legend continues to captivate us with her timeless beauty. But as it turns out, one of Sophia Loren’s best beauty secrets is actually pretty accessible and affordable, albeit a bit unusual.

According to the BBC, Sophia Loren’s trick to looking young is “the odd bath in virgin olive oil.” While the superstar actress also credited a love of life and spaghetti (not a surprise to anyone who’s a fan of Sophia’s), the olive oil bath has obviously gotten the most attention. After all, what is an olive oil bath? How would one of us be able to replicate this celebrity anti-aging trick at home? And one more thing: Just how much olive oil are we talking?!

If you’re imagining a bathtub full of vats’ worth of oil and nothing else, you can breathe a sigh of relief: Sophia only uses a few capfuls of the stuff in her bath water, according to Glamour UK. So, if you’d like to recreate this self-care routine for yourself at home, all you have to do is fill the tub with warm bath water and then mix in a few capfuls of olive oil as desired. That’s pretty much it.

As you may know, olive oil is packed with many benefits when part of a healthy diet, especially a Mediterranean-style eating plan (which, surprise, surprise, Sophia Loren also favored). But the vitamin E in olive oil has also been shown to be good for the skin, too. Plus, if Sophia swears by it as her fountain of youth, it must certainly be worth a try, right?

Just remember: As always, be careful when getting in and out of the tub. Olive oil makes everything just a little bit more slippery!
