‘Little House on the Prairie’: Watch Melissa Gilbert’s Glorious Disco Routine from Dick Clark Variety Show

If you think that you’ve seen Melissa Gilbert of “Little House on the Prairie” dance before, then let’s show you her gig with Dick Clark.

Outsiders who are old enough will remember Clark as the forever young host of “American Bandstand.” Well, Clark also hosted numerous game shows like “The $25,000 Pyramid” and even a few variety shows.

And this leads us to the golden year of 1978 when disco balls and Donna Summer were making headlines.

Gilbert, who played Laura Ingalls on the NBC family drama, could dance a bit, too.

Don’t believe us? Well, Clark had Gilbert on his short-lived variety show “Dick Clark’s Saturday Night” on NBC. It actually was a pretty sweet tie-in as Gilbert’s show also was on the Peacock Network.

Anyway, your day or night is about to be made. Feast your eyes on this blast from the past.

‘Little House on the Prairie’ Star Would Play Laura Ingalls For Nine Seasons

That definitely is something you would see out on “Little House on the Prairie.” Mercy.

But that is a little taste of how some TV shows would let stars come on and do something.

Clark’s variety show didn’t last too long, but he would go on to host and produce other shows.

Hey, he still had his steady gig on “American Bandstand” at this time.

“Little House on the Prairie” ran for nine seasons between 1972-84. Gilbert was one of the show’s breakout stars. Yet many people will remember Michael Landon as her father Charles and Karen Grassle as her mother Caroline.

Now Outsiders, Gilbert also spent time as an actress on other shows and theater plays.

Yet she has been focused on other things in her life like health and happiness. It leaves some wondering if she’ll get back to acting on a regular basis.

Actress Said She Is Committed To Acting Career When Talking With Cohn

That’s a question posed to her by actress Mindy Cohn when Gilbert was a guest on her podcast, “Mondays with Mindy.” People might remember Cohn from her work on the TV sitcom, “The Facts of Life.”

“I know you write and produce and direct and all that,” Cohn said to Gilbert. “But, I’m just speaking actress to actress. Do you see yourself picking that back up?”

That question startled the “Little House on the Prairie” actress.

“What? Acting?” Gilbert said. Cohn nodded and Gilbert replied, “Never stopped.”

But Cohn apparently was not satisfied with that response. She said that she meant with full-steam ahead and in a concentrated effort as an actress.

Gilbert replied, “Yes.”

She added, “Except… Having had this long of a career, I lack a bit of the competitive edge.” Auditions don’t excite her anymore.
