Mandalorian Star Recalls Din & Grogu’s Emotional Reunion In Boba Fett

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal recently recalled Din Djarin and Grogu's emotional reunion in Star Wars Disney+ TV series The Book of Boba Fett.

The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal recently recalled Din Djarin and Grogu’s emotional reunion in the Star Wars’ spin-off television series, The Book of Boba Fett. The diminutive Jedi Apprentice Grogu, affectionately known as Baby Yoda, was kept a secret leading up to The Mandalorian season 1. Upon his reveal, he quickly became a worldwide sensation – audiences fell in love with the doe-eyed 50-year-old child. Initially a bounty for the Mandalorian to deliver to a faction of the splintered Empire, Din Djarin soon became attached to Grogu. The popular Disney+ television series chronicled the pair’s journey across the galaxy as the bounty hunter attempted to deliver the fledgling Jedi to a Master who could teach him the way of the force.

The end of The Mandalorian season 2 found Din Djarin successful in his quest as he was able to deliver young Grogu to Luke Skywalker, who rescued them from near death at the robotic hands of the Moff Gideon’s Dark Troopers. It would seem that the two’s journey had come to an end. However, The Book of Boba Fett spin-off series included an episode that bridged the gap between The Mandalorian season 2 and season 3. Ignoring the story of the famed bounty hunter Boba Fett, in an episode directed by Bryce Dallas Howard, Din Djarin returns to Luke with a special gift for Grogu. However, Luke gives his apprentice the choice between life as a Jedi and reuniting with his friend and father figure. Grogu chooses the Mandalorian over Jedi training and joined his friend on Tatooine battling the Pyke Syndicate.

At this year’s Star Wars Celebration, Empire caught up with Pascal who recalled his character’s emotional reunion with Grogu during The Book of Boba Fett’s Mandalorian episode. The actor described the episode as “beautiful” and “lonely” while praising Howard’s directorial work. Read what Pascal said below.

“It was scary, wasn’t it? To be separated like that. Jon [Favreau] and Dave [Filoni, showrunners] called me, and they told me that they would be bridging seasons two and three with The Book Of Boba Fett, as far as Mandalorian and Grogu were concerned. I just thought that was brilliant. What I didn’t expect is such a beautiful, lonely episode that Bryce Dallas Howard directed so incredibly. And also, for the reunion to be precious, but also just quite sudden and natural.”

In a show focused on the Star Wars original trilogy character Boba Fett, many considered the series’ pivot to Din Djarin jarring. However, the episode was widely considered the show’s best as it pushed The Mandalorian‘s story in a new direction and expanded the lore of the Star Wars universe. The episode found Grogu flying to Tatooine in Luke’s X-Wing, piloted by R2-D2, and saving his friend once again with the power of the Force.

The finale of The Mandalorian season 2 was thought to be the end of a journey for the unlikely pair, culminating with Din Djarin violating his sworn code and removing his helmet in the presence of his friend. Now, it is that love of his friend that may dictate his season 3 journey as the titular character will reportedly travel to Mandalore to find the living waters in the planet’s mines in an attempt to regain favor with the Armorer. Unfortunately, audiences will have to wait for the next chapter in their journey as The Mandalorian season 3 returns to Disney+ in February 2023.
