M*A*S*H’s Hawkeye & Hunnicut Actors Reunite In 50th Anniversary Pic

M*A*S*H's Hawkeye and Hunnicutt actors, Alan Alda and Mike Farrell, reunite in a sweet new photo to celebrate the show's 50th anniversary.

In honor of the show’s 50th anniversary, M*A*S*H‘s Hawkeye and Hunnicutt actors, Alan Alda and Mike Farrell, reunited for a heartwarming celebratory photo. M*A*S*H was a dark comedy that premiered on CBS on September 17, 1972 and ran for 11 seasons until 1983. The show’s title is an acronym that stands for Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. M*A*S*H is a spin-off of the 1970 film of the same name and follows a medical unit stationed at 4077th Mobile Army Surgical Hospital in South Korea during the Korean War.

The series is often described at a dark comedy, because it was often switched back and forth between being an American sitcom and a war drama with quite heavy content. Many of the stories in the show were based off of the experiences that real-life M*A*S*H surgeons recounted to the writing team. At the same time, though, the unique characters, such as the wisecracking Benjamin Franklin “Hawkeye” Pierce (Alda), added comic relief to the series. The show grew in popularity over the course of its run, with its final episode becoming the most-watched television broadcast in American history – a record it held for nearly three decades, and now two stars are celebrating its anniversary in charming fashion.

This past weekend, Alan Alda took to Twitter to share a photo in honor of M*A*S*H‘s 50th anniversary. The photo saw the Hawkeye star and Hunnicutt actor Farrell reunited and holding wine glasses to toast to show’s anniversary. Alda remembered M*A*S*H fondly, referring to it as a series that changed his life and was a gift to all. Check out his post below:

Alda’s post comes along as the 50th anniversary celebration of M*A*S*H is in full swing. Across the media and the globe, the show is being honored as anecdotes, fun facts, favorite scenes, and details of its impact are shared, 50 years after it first hit TV screens. Alda and Farrell’s photo is just one of many sweet reminders of how much the show meant to many people. Their co-star, Hot Lips’ Loretta Swit, also joined in on the celebration, taking to her own social media to wish her followers a happy “Mashaversary.”

It is hard to believe that so much nostalgia and history could be summed up in just one photo. However, that is just what Alda and Farrell’s reunion is, reminding fans of how fast time flies, as well as how the impact of M*A*S*H on television won’t be forgotten. Alda stated that the show changed his life, but the truth is that M*A*S*H changed a lot of lives with its legacy. M*A*S*H marked many firsts in featuring characters that were unorthodox, a premise that was both dark and funny, and a show that didn’t pull punches when it came to depicting war and reality. 50 years after M*A*S*H premiered, Alda and Farrell’s reunion reminds fans of the show’s impact and influence that extended to both its crew, and its audience.
