Moff Gideon’s Evil Masterplan Teased By Mandalorian Season 3 Star

Giancarlo Esposito teases details of his character Imperial Officer Moff Gideon's evil master plan in the upcoming The Mandalorian season 3.

The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito recently teased his character Moff Gideon’s evil masterplan for season 3. The actor stars in the Star Wars series as the ruthless Imperial officer who has relentlessly pursued the relatively young Jedi apprentice Grogu (also known as Baby Yoda) over The Mandalorian season 1 and 2. Gideon’s goal was to deliver the powerful “child” to Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi) for experimental blood transfusions in an effort to transfer his Force sensitivity.

The Mandalorian season 2 nearly saw Gideon’s mission succeed as he managed to finally get his hands on Grogu. However, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) was able to free the child with help from his rag-tag crew consisting of Mandalorians Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks), assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and former Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano). At the end of The Mandalorian season 2, Gideon found himself at the mercy of the New Republic, and according to Esposito, most likely in a prison looking for a way out. Dialogue from The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Gideon was to stand trial for his actions in the New Republic.

In an interview with Steele Wars during Star Wars Celebration (via CBR), Esposito hinted at Gideon’s evil masterplan for The Mandalorian season 3. The actor explained that the Imperial officer wants to gather leaders of the fractured Empire together. However, Esposito was reluctant to divulge the exact reason behind these ominous actions. Read his comments below.

“[Gideon] has an agenda all of his own. He’s been a warden of a certain part of the galaxy. He wants to bring all the other wardens together for what reason? Why can’t he just live in peace in his own little piece of paradise? There’s gotta be a reason that he’s bringing all of them together because he must have an agenda of his own.”

Without revealing too much, Esposito also shared that Moff Gideon’s thirst for power is what drives him in The Mandalorian season 3. The villainous Star Wars figure is clearly attempting to build something greater than what he can do alone, as he intends to gather all other Empire wardens, which is perhaps a direct result of his failure to capture Grogu and defeat at the hands of Din. However, whether or not Gideon’s motivation is purely personal, or for service to the Empire itself, remains to be seen.

Gideon’s plan may be a part of a secret contingency intended to bring forth the resurgence of the Empire known as the First Order. The military faction, which served as the antagonists of the Star Wars sequel films, was created posthumously by Emperor Palpatine in the far reaches of the galaxy following his death. It is possible that Gideon’s plans align with those of the First Order to create a more unified structure and begin establishing their presence in the known galaxy. How Gideon enacts his plan in The Mandalorian season 3 remains unknown, but all will be revealed when the series returns to Disney+ in February 2023.
