Music Hall’s Silent Movies Made Musical to Feature Laurel and Hardy Films Accompanied by Original Score
Acclaimed organist Clark Wilson will perform the music on the historic Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.
Cincinnati’s Music Hall is bringing a musical twist to classic silent movies at a special film screening this April.
Friends of Music Hall’s popular silent film concert series, Silent Movies Made Musical, will present five Laurel and Hardy short films as they would have been viewed in the 1920s. With the help of the historic Mighty Wurlitzer Organ, you’ll be able to watch the films accompanied by a score from organist Clark Wilson.
“A skilled arranger, [Wilson] develops accurate and historic musical accompaniments as they were performed in major picture palaces — such as Cincinnati’s Albee Theater, the original home of Music Hall’s Mighty Wurlitzer — during the heyday of silent films in the 1920s,” reads an event description.
Joe Horine, a film historian and cinema history teacher, will host the program and lead a Q&A following the films. The films being shown are That’s My Wife (1929), Leave ‘Em Laughing (1928), Putting Pants on Phillip (1927), Habeas Corpus (1928) and The Finishing Touch (1928).
The event is being held in Music Hall’s ballroom beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13. Tickets are $32 per person, but you can use the promo code HARDY for $25 tickets. You can buy those here.
