Pokemon GO: How to Beat Arlo (May 2022)

Team GO Rocket Leader Arlo is back in May 2022, with a roster of predominantly Dragon, Psychic, and Steel-type Pokemon for players to take on.

Team GO Rocket are up to their old tricks in Pokemon GO this month, menacing players and PokeStops with their nefarious plans. Each Team GO Rocket Leader has a unique roster, which rotates regularly to keep the challenge fresh for players. This month, Arlo is fielding a selection of Pokemon GOs best Pokemon, with a focus on Dragon, Psychic, and Steel-types.

Taking on Arlo’s team will require players to counter his choices, which can be difficult as they’re somewhat randomized. Overall, the best picks to take on Arlo this month include Ice and Fire-type Pokemon, as well as Fighting and Bug-types.

Arlo’s Lineup

Arlo’s starter Pokemon will always be Exeggcute, but his second and third picks each draw from a pool of three choices:

  • Exeggcute
  • Dragonite, Exeggutor (Alola), or Salamence
  • Scizor, Gardevoir, or Steelix

Exeggute Counters

Exeggute is a Grass/Psychic-type Pokemon and therefore is weak to Bug, Dark, Fire, Flying, Ghost, Ice, and Poison attacks. It is resistant to Electric, Fighting, Grass, Ground, Psychic, and Water attacks.

Dragonite is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon and therefore is weak to Ice, Dragon, Fairy, and Rock attacks. It is resistant to Fighting, Fire, Grass, Bug, and Water, and immune to Ground attacks.

  • Sylveon – Charm/Moonblast
  • Zacian (Hero) – Snarl/Close Combat
  • Mamoswine – Powder Snow/Avalanche

Alolan Exeggutor Counters

The Alolan variant of Exeggutor is a Grass/Dragon-type Pokemon and therefore is weak to Bug, Dragon, Fairy, Flying, Ice, and Poison attacks. It is resistant to Electric, Grass, Ground, and Water attacks.

  • Darmanitan (Galarian Standard) – Ice Fang/Avalanche
  • Glaceon – Frost Breath/Avalanche

Salamence Counters

Salamence is a Dragon/Flying-type Pokemon, and therefore is weak to Ice, Dragon, Fairy, and Rock attacks. It is resistant to Fighting, Fire, Grass, Bug, and Water, and immune to Ground attacks.

Scizor Counters

Scizor is a Bug/Steel-type Pokemon, and therefore is only weak to Fire attacks. It is resistant to Normal, Steel, Psychic, Dragon, Bug, Grass, Ice, and Fairy, and immune to Poison attacks.

Gardevoir Counters

Gardevoir is a Fairy/Psychic-type Pokemon, and therefore is weak to Poison, Steel, and Ghost attacks. It is resistant to Fighting and Psychic, and immune to Dragon attacks.
