Raymond G Allen Senior dead: Good Times actor dies aged 91 ‘Hardest day of my life’

RAYMOND G ALLEN SENIOR, who was best known for playing Woodrow 'Woody' Anderson on the beloved series Sanford And Son, has died at age 91.

Good Times star Raymond G Allen Senior was found “unresponsive” early on Monday morning. His daughter Ta-Ronce Allen, confirmed the news on her Facebook page today.

In an emotional Facebook post, she penned: “What a day this has been. I am so surrounded by love from friends and family.

“This has been one of the hardest days of my life. I lost my father Raymond Allen and my cousin Deborah Doll (his niece). They are now both being held by the wings of angels.”

The actor was found “unresponsive” early on Monday morning when he was in his long-term facility in California, his family told TMZ.

His family added that his death was not related to COVID-19 but rather Raymond had been suffering from “respiratory issues”.

Raymond had not been well for many years and his family had entered him into the healthcare facility in 2016.

He had struggled with pneumonia many times, according to the publication.

Fans of the beloved actor have since flocked to social media and offered their condolences.

One person said: “I’m sad to hear of the passing of #RaymondAllen. We’ll never forget him and the characters he played on #GoodTimes and #SanfordAndSon. #RIP #NedTheWino #WoodyAnderson.”

“Raymond Allen, you will be missed,” another person penned.

“I just learned Woody/Ned the Wino made Heaven his home. That was our television uncle. R.I.P Raymond Allen,” a fan tweeted.

A fourth person added: “Woodrow was HILARIOUS. May he rest in peace.”(sic)

Raymond appeared on Sanford and Son which aired from 1972 and 1977.

The NBC show was about a grouchy father, Fred G. Sanford, who worked in a junkyard in Watts, California.

His character was memorably played by Redd Foxx with Demond Wilson as his easy-going son Lamont Sanford.

The show was a huge success and considered groundbreaking and the American actor later reprised his role as Uncle Woody in the Sanford And Son spin-off, The Sanford Arms.

Raymond also starred as Ned the Wino on Good Times, which aired from 1974 until 1979.

The small-screen star also appeared in popular shows of the time including The Love Boat, The Jeffersons, Wattstax and What’s Happening!

He also played the memorable mechanic Merle the Earl on Starsky And Hutch.

Raymond took a step back from being on-screen in 1985 due to his health concerns.

He is survived by his two daughters Ta-Ronce Allen and Brenda Allen.
