Rosario Dawson Didn’t Know Boba Fett Scene Was With Luke Until Filming

Actress Rosario Dawson says she had no idea she would be filming with Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker on The Book of Boba Fett until the day of filming.

Actress Rosario Dawson says she didn’t know she’d be filming with Luke Skywalker on The Book of Boba Fett until the day of filming. Dawson plays the live-action Ahsoka Tano in the Star Wars universe, first appearing as the character in The Mandalorian season 2. In The Book of Boba Fett season 1, episode 6, “From the Desert Comes a Stranger,” the Mandalorian travels to a forested planet where Luke Skywalker is training Grogu in an attempt to reconnect with his little friend. Once there, Mando finds that Ahsoka is also at the site, where she later has a scene with Luke discussing the training of Grogu, which is the first time both iconic characters have met in Star Wars.

Ahsoka Tano is a Togruta who was trained at the Jedi Academy on Coruscant by Anakin Skywalker. The duo fought and trained together throughout the animated The Clone Wars series, where their relationship as student and teacher, as well as friends, was heavily documented. After the Clone Wars and the execution of Order 66, Ahsoka went into hiding, like all Jedi, and had a number of adventures leading up to her pivotal moment in The Book of Boba Fett with Luke, the offspring of her former Jedi Master, Anakin.

Dawson revealed on Twitter that she actually had no idea she’d be filming on The Book of Boba Fett with Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker until the day of. The actress said that she’s “still pinching” herself over the scene, which is something most Star Wars fans never thought they’d actually see in any format, let alone live action. Dawson admitted she was “freaking out” when her scene partner was revealed. Check out her response below:

Dawson not knowing that she’d be filming with Hamill as Luke feels like a security measure that would be taken by the ultra-secretive Disney in order to keep the scene from leaking in any capacity, which ultimately worked out as a great surprise for the actress. The Book of Boba Fett won’t be the last audiences see of Dawson’s Ahsoka, either. It was announced in 2020 that Ahsoka would be getting her own series on Disney+, and that Dawson will continue in the role. It was recently revealed that Hayden Christensen would appear as Anakin Skywalker in the show, although it wasn’t clear if this appearance would be through flashbacks or as a Force ghost. The series has also cast Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Ivanna Sakhno in undisclosed roles, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo cast as Sabine Wren. The Star Wars show is expected to start filming this April with an eye toward release in late 2022 or early 2023.

Having Ahsoka and Luke Skywalker meet on The Book of Boba Fett may seem like fan wish fulfillment, but it works well for that timeline and the overall interconnected structure that Lucasfilm is building on with the Disney+ shows. Dawson is perfectly cast in the role of Ahsoka, and her excitement in being a part of the Star Wars universe makes it that much better. When the actors portraying these beloved characters are as enthusiastic as the fans, it helps keep the magic alive, and Dawson is proof positive of that.
