SCREEN siren Sophia Loren is heading to Australia to help the Alannah and Madeline Foundation at La Dolce Italia Festival.

ONE of Italy’s most glamorous and enduring exports is coming to Australia.

The iconic Sophia Loren, one of the most glamorous women in history, will be the guest of honour at a gala fundraiser in Melbourne as part of La Dolce Italia Festival.

Ms Loren will visit the city in April 2015 to attend the fundraising event in support of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation.

Ms Loren has previously been to Australia in 2007.

“Australia and Italy have always been very close in spirit so it’s wonderful to be here again,” she said.

“I am very proud to be the guest of honour for La Dolce Italia Gala Charity Dinner, which is generously supporting efforts to protect children.”

Event director Connie Paglianiti said Ms Loren was a devoted a mother herself and a wonderful ambassador for the cause.

“We’re so proud to have Sophia support this event — it’s very close to our hearts and we’re delighted that La Dolce Italia is able to donate the net proceeds of the night to the Alannah and Madeline Foundation,” she said.

“The gala event is part of a week of Italian celebration providing an authentic experience of the very best of everything the country has to offer.

“Australia is home to one of the largest populations of Italians outside of Italy, so we have a special affection for Italian cuisine and culture.”

La Dolce Italia will feature seven nights of cabaret-style shows and a three-day exhibition of gourmet and designer delights, including the food, fashion and culture that make Italy, well, Italy.

La Dolce Italia will be held at Flemington Showgrounds from April 13 to 19 next year.
