Star Wars: What Your Favorite Bounty Hunter Says About You

A person's favorite bounty hunter says a lot about their personality, and there's plenty of variety in the rogue's gallery of Star Wars mercenaries.

If the popularity of The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian is any indication, Star Wars fans love bounty hunters. Though bounty hunting may be “a complicated profession,” it’s a popular one, and ruthless hunters have been a staple of the franchise since the very beginning. The mercenaries of the Star Wars universe exude confidence, have the coolest gadgets, and have surpassed even the good guys in many fans’ hearts.

Far from being one-note characters, these hunters have well-developed personalities and character arcs that have evolved throughout their appearances in various series in the franchise.  Given the complexity of the characters, it’s no wonder that fans find them appealing and relatable. Dedicated fans find aspects of their own personalities reflected in these bounty hunters.

Boba Fett – Iconic & Respected

Few characters have captured the imagination of fans more than Boba Fett, who is a legend in both the fictional Star Wars universe and among real-world fans. A leader even as a child, Boba Fett earned his reputation as the most feared bounty hunter in the galaxy throughout his storied career.

Although his recent series The Book of Boba Fett portrayed a mellower, more merciful man, he still shows the resourcefulness that made him a legend and earns the respect of the town he governs. The legions of fans who like Boba Fett the best are people who appreciate the classics, and who know that it’s better to be respected than feared.

Din Djarin – Spontaneous & Tenacious

Din Djarin is one of the newest bounty hunters introduced in the Star Wars universe, but he has quickly become many viewers’ favorite character in The Mandalorian world. He may be a legend, but he lacks the craftiness and finesse of many of the franchise’s other legendary hunters.

Djarin’s strategy is to run headlong into a battle, trusting that his armor will protect him as he rushes in. This plan is repeated so often that viewers can’t help but think that it’s a good thing he’s wearing a helmet. Once he rushes into a battle though, he stays until the end, unwilling to give up. Djarin is popular with people who value actions above words.

Krrsantan – Strong & Independent

Krrsantan made an impact in his first live-action appearance in The Book Of Boba Fett, immediately becoming a favorite with viewers. Wookiees are known for being large and imposing, and Krrsantan takes this to the next level. It’s no wonder he usually comes out on top in a fight since, according to canon, he’s been genetically altered, equipped with permanent metal-plated knuckles.

In addition to his outward strength, Krrsantan knows how to take care of himself. He’s willing to switch sides if a better deal presents itself, as viewers saw when he joined forces with Fett despite being hired to take him out. In the dangerous world of bounty hunting, that kind of independence is an asset, and viewers who prefer Krrsantan appreciate this fact.

Cad Bane – Cool & Strategic

True Star Wars fans know that Cad Bane is based on Angel Eyes, the main antagonist of the classic Western, The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly. He’s a straightforward villain; in a franchise that loves redemption arcs, Cad Bane never reforms his ways. However, his ability to stay cool under pressure and his undeniable strength at laying out a plan make him a fan favorite, even if he isn’t a traditional “nice guy.”

Bane’s strength as a bounty hunter lies in his ability to strategize, and the complex plans he makes enable him to outwit formidable adversaries like the Jedi. His cool head helps him to be first on the draw, which is bad news for anyone facing off with him. Fans of Cad Bane respect him because he’s arguably the best at what he does.

Fennec Shand – Calm & Practical

Nothing seems to shake Fennec Shand’s calm demeanor. Even when the odds are stacked against her, Shand keeps her cool and thinks things through. Her practical way of thinking is particularly noteworthy in The Mandalorian when she persuades Toro Calican to bring Djarin in instead of her. Of course, this plan backfires on her, but the incident shows that even when caught, she remains calm and comes up with a plan.

She maintains these aspects of her personality even as she softens in The Book Of Boba Fett: she may be loyal to Fett, but she also calmly points out the flaws in his plan to rule with respect rather than fear. People who love Fennec Shand find her chill practicality to be an asset.

IG – 11  – Precise & Composed

Bounty hunters have a bad reputation for being mercenary and greedy, but this can’t be said of IG-11.  After all, if he’s a bad guy, it’s only because he’s programmed that way. His programming allows him to logically evaluate situations and act in the best possible way, not blinded by inconvenient emotions such as fear. He’s also ready to make the ultimate sacrifice if the situation warrants it, frequently preparing to self-destruct when about to be captured.

He gets reprogrammed as a hero in The Mandalorian, but fans of bounty hunters can’t help but feel that his redemption arc was a loss to the guild. People who value logic and exactness over emotion likely choose IG-11 as their favorite.

Bossk – Efficient & Loyal

The Trandoshan bounty hunter, Bossk, first appeared in Vader’s iconic bounty hunter lineup, along with Boba Fett, and had a history of working with Fett that was portrayed in The Clone Wars. As their history of working together demonstrates, although he prefers to work alone, Bossk also sees the value of joining a team for efficiency’s sake, and he is surprisingly loyal to his teammates.

Despite the traditional hatred between Trandoshans and Wookies, Bossk even teams up with Krrsantan and promises to uphold the code of the guild and not betray him. This shows that Bossk is willing to set aside his personal biases in order to efficiently get the job done, and demonstrates that he’s loyal to his team and to the guild. This unexpected loyalty makes Bossk an appealing character to many viewers.

Aurra Sing – Powerful & Protective

Power is an asset to a bounty hunter – after all, their trade is a dangerous one. Aurra Sing earns her place as one of the most feared bounty hunters in the galaxy because she understands this fact and has the strength to carry her missions through to the end.

There’s no denying she has a ruthless streak and is willing to sacrifice both hostages and allies who get in her way. However, she has affection for Boba Fett, treating him with almost motherly concern and mentoring him, and her attachment to Fett shows her protective nature. Fans who love Aurra Sing are likely protective of their besties and willing to show their strength when it comes to taking care of their squad.

Asajj Ventress – Compassionate & Surprising

Asajj Ventress becomes a bounty hunter after she reforms from being a member of the Dark Side. As such, she is incredibly powerful and a force to be reckoned with. Initially, she seems bent on revenge against her former master Count Dooku, against whom she has a justifiable grudge. However, she also shows that she has a compassionate nature, helping Ahsoka who was formerly her enemy.

Surprisingly, she ultimately sacrifices her life to save Quinlan Vos, even though this means abandoning her vengeance on Dooku.  Though she’s perhaps best remembered as a villain, it’s clear that Ventress is misunderstood, and fans who appreciate her know that looks can be deceiving, and it’s what’s inside that counts.

Greedo – Classic & Unforgettable

Greedo is the first bounty hunter to appear in the Star Wars universe, and one of the most memorable. He even became a source of controversy when in the 1997 rerelease of Episode IV: A New Hope his scene was edited to include him shooting at Han before he gets shot.

Whether Han shot first or Greedo missed, though it’s not the most illustrious introduction as a bounty hunter, it’s a moment fans will never forget. Thanks to his unique Rodian species and his appearance in the beloved original trilogy, Greedo will always appeal to fans who appreciate the classics.
