‘The Andy Griffith Show’: How Many Times Did Ron Howard’s Younger Brother, Clint, Appear on Show?

If you have seen many films directed by Ron Howard, chances are you have spotted his younger brother, Clint Howard in a few of those movies. Turns out, their work together goes back all the way to “The Andy Griffith Show.”

As fans are aware, Ron had a starring role in the classic television series as Opie Taylor. The show aired from 1960 until 1968. It was during 1962 that Clint made first his appearance in the show. That appearance was Clint’s professional acting debut. According to IMDb, he was only 2 years old at the time.

Clint’s initial appearance in “The Andy Griffith Show” was uncredited. It was in an episode titled “The Jinx,” which first aired on Jan. 29, 1962. It was the 17th episode of the show’s second season. In this episode, he played a very young boy who was in attendance at a church social.

For his final four appearances in “The Andy Griffith Show,” Clint Howard played the role of Leon. Leon was a bit of an oddball. As fans of the show are aware, he was often seen walking around Mayberry seeing if people wanted to try his sandwich.

Clint Howard appeared as the character Leon in “The Bank Job” episode of “The Andy Griffith Show.” This episode aired on Dec. 24, 1962, and was the 13th episode of the show’s third season. Next came an appearance in the episode “One Punch Opie,” which was the next episode. It aired on Dec. 31, 1962.

Then, on Nov. 11, 1963, Clint was back as Leon in the seventh episode of the show’s fourth season. It was titled, “A Black Day for Mayberry.” His final appearance on “The Andy Griffith Show” came in the March 2, 1964, episode titled, “The Shoplifters.” This was the 21st episode of the show’s fourth season.

Clint Howard Has Had Many Roles After He Made His Acting Debut In ‘The Andy Griffith Show’

Obviously, Clint Howard’s acting career did not end with his five appearances in “The Andy Griffith Show.” Clint Howard’s television credits also include at least two other projects that also involved his brother. One was “Happy Days.” The other was “Arrested Development.”

And, his career has extended beyond projects that also included his famous older brother, Ron Howard. For example, he provided the voice of an elephant in the 1967 Disney animated film, “The Jungle Book.” He was also the voice of Roo in a 1966 short film titled, “Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree.”

In addition to “The Andy Griffith Show,” Clint Howard also appeared in many other famous television shows. These included “The Fugitive,” “Bonanza,” “The Patty Duke Show,” “Star Trek: The Original Series,” “The Odd Couple,” “Gunsmoke,” “Lou Grant,” and “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.”
