Breaking Bad Stars Send Well Wishes To Bob Odenkirk After Hospitalization

Bob Odenkirk’s Breaking Bad co-stars have joined many online who have shared their support and well-wishes to the actor after he collapsed on the set of Better Call Saul. 58-year-old Odenkirk collapsed while filming the series’ sixth and final season in New Mexico. He was tended to by crew members and an ambulance was immediately called for the actor, whereupon he was rushed to a hospital in Albuquerque. Odenkirk is still receiving medical care and the exact cause of his collapse is yet to be disclosed.

A prequel to the hit AMC show, Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul traces the titular character as he transforms from the ordinary con-man, Jimmy McGill, into the ambulance chasing lawyer, Saul Goodman, who works with Walt and Jesse. His portrayal of the character has earned him four Golden Globe nominations and four Emmy nominations. Odenkirk most recently appeared as Hutch Mansell in Nobody from John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, and has also appeared in films such as Nebraska and The Incredibles 2, as well as the first season of Fargo. 

Since his hospitalization, a number of actors have joined hundreds online wishing their best for the actor, including Michael McKean who played Saul’s brother Chuck for three seasons on Better Call Saul. Most recently, Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul both took to their Instagram accounts to add their well wishes. Cranston shared a picture of the two of them, reflecting on the news and imploring his followers to “Please take a moment in your day today to think about him and send positive thoughts and prayers his way.” Paul shared a photograph of Odenkirk simply adding, “I love you my friend.” Check out both their Instagram posts below:

Odenkirk joined Breaking Bad in the show’s second season, already the full fledged “criminal” lawyer Saul and helped Walt and Jesse by representing their associate, Badger, after he was arrested selling the meth they had cooked. Saul would go on to become their consigliere and put the pair in contact with Gus Fring to help with their distribution; although that would lead to even greater trouble for all three of them later down the line. Saul would eventually be forced to go into hiding in Nebraska as the DEA began to enclose on Walt and Jesse’s empire.

Filming on the final season of Better Call Saul had already been delayed significantly by the pandemic, with the show having initially been scheduled to air this year. Odenkirk’s hospitalization will inevitably add to these delays, but the priority is Odenkirk’s health. Hopefully, whatever has affected the actor is nothing too debilitating and he can overcome it without facing any lingering health issues. It’s reassuring, at least, to know that he has both the support of his former co-stars, as well as the countless others who have voiced their concern for the actor.
