The Book of Boba Fett Reveals How and Why Fennec Shand Became Boba’s Enforcer

In the latest episode of The Book of Boba Fett, fans finally learn how and why Fennec Shand opted to become Boba's enforcer after The Mandalorian.

One of the most intriguing aspects of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett has been the dynamic between the ex-bounty hunter and Fennec Shand. They’ve been devoted to each other, surprising many fans as it’s not something often found with assassins or wranglers in this universe. Interestingly, as their bond deepened on Tatooine, fans have finally learned via flashbacks how and why Fennec opted to become Boba’s enforcer.

How Did Fennec Shand Survive The Mandalorian?

It was known Fennec was left bleeding to death after a gut shot in her battle with Din Djarin, with many suspecting Boba Fett was the one who picked her up and healed her. That turned out to be true, but the how was unknown. It turns out, Fett carted Shand via Bantha to someone who helped turn humans into cyborgs known as “Mods.” At this establishment, Fett saw how this scientist made modifications to people like the teenage cyborg biker gang that Fett recruited down the line, which was the only way to save Fennec.

Here, the person graciously accepted Boba’s credits, operating on Fennec’s stomach and basically turning her into a mix of woman and machine. If not, she’d have died, and while she was shocked at Boba doing this, she didn’t see herself as a monster. She was simply glad to be given the opportunity to carry on, although she was still skeptical of Boba’s intentions. That said, her reputation preceded her and Boba Fett knew the great Fennec would be of service, especially as this upgrade made her faster and stronger.

Why Did Fennec Shand Partner With Boba Fett?

Boba needed her to break his Firespray ship, the Slave I, out of Bib Fortuna’s palace. He knew Bib and his seedy crew wouldn’t be intimidated by a Boba without his armor, so Boba offered Fennec Shand a deal: help him steal back his vessel and she could go free, considering the debt paid. And so she did, coming off like a true assassin in the firefight and proving her worth. Not only did she excel at stealth, she was badass in the field, leaving Boba Fett impressed.

But rather than cut ties, Fennec was pleased with Boba’s vision for the future. He wanted order because he felt idiots and egos would keep endangering people like him and Fennec with contracts. Admittedly, she was cynical as this would mean less work, but Boba was all about the sanctity of life.

Hearing him wax on about the Tusken Raiders being family, enlightening him along the way, further inspired Fennec as she realized Boba was someone who could lead her tribe. Thus, she accepted the offer to join Boba’s mission as she felt he was loyal and a trustworthy man of honor, which is something she didn’t encounter in her line of work often. She’d protect him, and vice versa, thus giving her the peace she always wanted.
