Since The Mandalorian Season 2 ended in December 2020, fans can’t stop talking about what Grogu (Baby Yoda) might do in season 3. The commonly discussed topic is when the Child might utter his first words and what they might be. Fans also like to argue whether Grogu will speak in a similar language to Jedi Grand Master Yoda from the original Star Wars films.
What language does ‘Star Wars’ Jedi Master Yoda speak?
In Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, fans meet Yoda for the first time when Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) arrives on Dagobah. Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) sent Luke to find Yoda to train him in the Force.
“Away with your weapon,” Yoda says to Luke. “I mean you no harm. I am wondering why are you here?”
According to Star Wars Fandom, Yoda speaks an unusual form of Galactic Basic Standard. It is a form of English that uses object-subject-verb or object-agent-verb format.
“Looking?” Yoda asked. “Found someone you have, I say, hmm? Help you I can, yes.”

Fans are hopeful that Grogu will say his first words in The Mandalorian Season 3. However, they are in a great debate over what dialect the Child will speak.
“The way, this is,” one Reddit fan wrote as a possibility for Baby Yoda’s first words.
The phrase is a different format of the Mandalorian code, “This is the way.”
However, other fans point out that Grogu won’t speak like the Jedi Master Yoda.
“Language is learned, not inherent,” another fan wrote. “So you speak like whoever you learn language from. I will be quite disappointed if Grogu does speak like Yoda because there wouldn’t be any way to explain why logically (even given the fantasy universe this is set in).”
Many fans agree that Grogu will speak the language of those he grew up around.

Other fans pointed out that although Grogu is attached to Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) he was around others before meeting Mando. The green creature was raised at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant until it was destroyed. Then he was held at a hideout run by Nikto mercenaries on Arvala-7. He is still considered an infant, although he is 50 years old, so Baby Yoda could pick up language from anyone he was surrounded by in those years.
Some fans hope Grogu speaks like Mando, while others want the little Green creature to sound like Jedi Master Yoda. Viewers have to wait until early 2022 to see if Baby Yoda finally utters his first words in The Mandalorian Season 3. If he speaks in the same dialect as the Grand Master, the series might have some explaining to do.
