The Mandalorian Season 3 Fan Poster Imagines Din Djarin’s Helmet Struggle

A fan poster for The Mandalorian season 3 puts Din Djarin and his struggle with the removal of his helmet at the heart of his upcoming journey.

A fan poster for The Mandalorian season 3 imagines Din Djarin’s struggle with his helmet rule. The Mandalorian season 2 wrapped up in December 2020 with Din (Pedro Pascal) left helmet-less and alone as he said goodbye to his foundling Grogu (Baby Yoda). Viewers were left wondering what would happen next until this past January, when Din made his return in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5. Since then, Din’s learned more about the history of the Darksaber and the planet Mandalore, been banished from his Mandalorian tribe, customized a Naboo N-1 Starfighter, and reunited with Grogu.

All of this has set up Din’s journey for The Mandalorian season 3. When the Armorer (Emily Swallow) learned that Din had removed his helmet, she insisted that the only way for him to earn atonement would be to visit the “living waters beneath the mines of Mandalore,” which has hinted towards an adventure on the planet that has yet to make its live-action debut. Though Din was eager to atone, his declaration of being a Mandalorian just minutes later as well as his decision to keep wearing his helmet shows that Din likely doesn’t regret breaking his creed and removing his helmet to save Grogu. It still, however, has no doubt made him question the way of his Mandalorian tribe, especially after meeting Mandalorians such as Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) who often remove their helmets.

Now, a fan poster made by spoiler4you on Twitter puts Din’s helmet struggle on full display. The art features Din’s face in between two halves of his helmet. He hovers over the destroyed remains of Mandalore that appeared during the Armorer’s storytelling of the Night of a Thousand Tears in The Book of Boba Fett episode 5. The text that labels The Mandalorian season 3 is done in the same style as the prequel Star Wars trilogy posters to further tie it into the grander Star Wars universe. See the full poster below:

The poster does an excellent job at imagining what it will be like once Din starts to come to terms with the consequences of removing his helmet and breaking his creed. There’s still much left unknown about the origin of Din’s people and their way, who Bo-Katan referred to as the Children of the Watch in The Mandalorian “Chapter 11: The Heiress.” It was the Death Watch who brought back the ancient warrior ways of Mandalorians during the Clone Wars era, so it makes sense that Din’s tribe would be derived from that same group. The flashback of Din’s rescue as a child seen in The Mandalorian season 1 finale also shows that Din was saved by Death Watch, which only further ties him to them and their ways. This is likely why Din’s tribe went back to the rule of never removing their helmets, which has placed Din in a tug-of-war between his people’s way and that of other Mandalorians.

Din seems not to have been told much about the history of Mandalore and its people, which could set up for many revelations during his season 3 journey. The Armorer mentioned that their tribe had been cloistered on the Mandalorian moon Concordia where Death Watch once resided, though Din said in the season 1 finale that his name was kept in the registers on Mandalore. Din also insisted in episode 11 that Mandalore is cursed, so it’s as of yet unclear as to whether or not he’s even been on the planet. Still, many emerging details from The Mandalorian season 3 point towards a significant amount of time spent on Mandalore, which will give Din the opportunity to explore much more about the history of his people. Along the way, Din just might end up processing what he’s been through and deciding his might create his own way rather than stick to the one he’s known for so long.
