The Mandalorian Season 3 May See Moff Gideon Escape Prison

The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito teases that his character, Moff Gideon, may escape from prison in the upcoming season 3.

The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito hints that his character Moff Gideon may escape prison in season 3. The actor stars in the popular science-fiction fantasy Star Wars series as the ruthless Imperial officer who will stop at nothing to get his hands on the young Jedi apprentice Grogu (affectionately known as Baby Yoda). Following the fracturing of the evil Galactic Empire after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, Gideon sought Grogu to deliver him to Dr. Pershing (Omid Abtahi) for experiments dealing with cloning and the transference of Force abilities.

The Mandalorian season 2 found Gideon successful in his mission after being thwarted numerous times by Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and his eclectic crew of heroes, including Mandalorians Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks), former Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Dune (Gina Carano), and assassin Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen). However, Din and his team infiltrated Gideon’s flagship, rescued the child, and captured Gideon — with a little help from Luke Skywalker.

In a recent interview with ET, Esposito opened up about Gideon’s situation at the start of The Mandalorian season 3. The actor explains that his character is most likely behind bars but infers that Gideon could escape due to the conniving nature of the Imperial officer. Read what Esposito teased below.

“Yes, it’s assumed he is behind bars. I think we could have an opportunity to see him escape those chains that bind him. We want to see a guy who is a mastermind who has an idea for the future that no one else has. And so, we want to know what that is and we want to know if that’s good or bad.”

Esposito understands the nature of his character and knows that Gideon will not sit and wait for the possibility of release from a New Republic prison in some unknown, distant future. He is cunning and merciless and will use every opportunity to take control of his own destiny, as seen in the season 2 finale when he seemingly tried to kill himself instead of facing a Jedi. Although the officer may be locked inside a cell, he still has a larger role to play in The Mandalorian’s story.

Although Din Djarin’s quest to take Grogu to his people has previously been completed, regardless of the fact that the young apprentice chose to return to the Mandalorian during the events of The Book of Boba Fett, his journey is just beginning regarding his identity and creed. Bo-Katan has a lot of unfinished business with Gideon following what he did to her people on her home world of Mandalore. Din Djarin and Grogu could join her on her quest to make things right, and perhaps once again face off again Gideon if he escapes his confinement in The Mandalorian season 3.
