The Mandalorian Season 3 Release Date Rumor Debunked

Rumors about The Mandalorian season 3 releasing this summer are debunked, with the latest info pointing to a premiere towards the end of the year.

Rumors about the Mandalorian season 3 release date are debunked. Disney+’s flagship Star Wars series was last seen in December 2020, though the storyline continued via spinoff show The Book of Boba Fett. The dynamic duo of Din Djarin and Grogu played key supporting roles in The Book of Boba Fett, setting the stage for the upcoming Mandalorian season 3. The Book of Boba Fett ended with the pair reunited, after Grogu chose Din over his Jedi training with Luke.

In typical Lucasfilm fashion, several details about The Mandalorian season 3 are being kept under wraps, including the release date. Star Giancarlo Esposito made headlines recently when he stated The Mandalorian season 3 could arrive this summer, meaning the show would return arguably sooner than anticipated. However, it would appear Esposito may have misspoke, as the latest updates on the matter have The Mandalorian coming back at a later time.

Steven Weintraub of Collider took to Twitter to comment on the matter. According to him, The Mandalorian season 3 will be on Disney+ “end of this year.” Check out his post in the space below:

This implies The Mandalorian season 3 won’t premiere until the holiday season, which makes sense. The Mandalorian season 3 only wrapped filming in late March, so summer would make for a very fast turnaround with regard to post-production. Lucasfilm will also have its hands full this summer. Obi-Wan Kenobi will run through late June, and speculation is Andor will debut in August. Coupled with the MCU show Ms. Marvel arriving in June, Disney+ will have plenty of original programming to carry the streaming service through the summer. Marvel also looks to have She-Hulk coming out at some point this year, so saving The Mandalorian season 3 for a holiday event sounds logical. That would allow Disney+ to space out their major projects, ensuring they don’t cannibalize each other.

There will be a Mandalorian panel at Star Wars Celebration in May. The panel is said to look back at the show’s first two seasons, but there will also be discussion about what audiences can expect next. It’s definitely plausible Lucasfilm uses that event to reveal the official Mandalorian season 3 release date. Celebration will be focusing on future Star Wars projects, including Andor and The Bad Batch season 2. With the Star Wars movies on hiatus until Rogue Squadron, the franchise’s biggest title at the current moment is The Mandalorian. It would arguably be a wasted opportunity to not shed some light on when The Mandalorian will return.
