‘Three’s Company’ Star Suzanne Somers Remembers NYE in ’78 With Dick Clark: ‘What a Memory’
When you think of New Year’s Eve, you think of Dick Clark, don’t you? Clark was a mainstay on the ABC special for so many years. He was a splendid host and it felt like a must-see to the Big Apple drop in Time’s Square with Dick Clark and his stacked cast of performers and actors and everyone else. It is easy to forget just how long and how successful his New Year’s Even specials really were. For instance, Three’s Company star Suzanne Somers remembered this week NYE in ’78 with Dick Clark.
In a new post on Instagram, Somers wrote, “Throwback to New Year’s Eve 1978 with my dear friend Dick Clark! What a line up! What a memory! We will be back with a show on Friday, New Year’s Eve, to celebrate with you! Today my brother Danny and his family are in town for a visit so no show today. See you on Friday for the last show of 2021!”
The photo was a black and white advertisement for the special. It was a special event and Somers remembers appearing on it quite fondly.

Ryan Seacrest And Dick Clark
Replacing a legend is never easy, but somebody has to do it. It’s the nature of the beast, as they say. With Dick Clark gone, it’s Seacrest’s ship to steer. At least for now.
Seacrest told Good Morning America in 2020, “If any of the bosses are watching, I’m pitching myself for forever right now.” He clearly wants the full-time role as the New Year’s Eve special host. It is an iconic role, similar to Alex Trebek on Jeopardy!. Seacrest also mentioned that he grew up watching those specials, so it really would be a dream come true if this becomes a full-time thing.
He continued, “It may feel a little different on the ground, but I think on the air it’s still going to have that celebratory component to it.” Only time will tell how different this year’s version feels for Seacrest and the folks involved. He continued, “Most of us can’t go anywhere, so we’re going to really try to put on a good show.”
Similar situation this holiday with the latest winter surge in the pandemic. This year, this will be the seventeenth time Seacrest has been involved in the process of co-hosting the special that Dick Clark built on ABC.
