‘Little House on the Prairie’: What Do We Know About Upcoming Paramount Reboot?

TV shows don’t get much more iconic than Little House on the Prairie. The series ran for nine years from 1974 to 1983. During that time, viewers tuned in every week to get a taste of a simpler time. The show focused on the life and adventures of the Ingalls family. It was based on the novels by Laura Ingalls Wilder. However, much of the series was written and directed by its star, Michael Landon. So, some of the series consisted of semi-autobiographical tales from the prairie. The rest was comprised of smart and timely writing by Landon and his cohorts.

Fans of Little House on the Prairie still love the show today. In fact, a whole new generation is finding and falling in love with the classic series right now. At the same time, Melissa Gilbert and the majority of the surviving cast are still heavily involved in the preservation of the show. They take part in cast reunions and attend conventions. For some cast members, Gilbert included, Little House was a huge part of their formative years. So, it’s like they are reminiscing on their childhood with those who watched them grow up.

Late last year, Paramount TV announced a Little House on the Prairie reboot. Rehashing the series for a new audience just makes sense. They’ll probably never recapture the magic of the original series. However, there’s a good chance that they can come close. The source material is solid. At the same time, there is a world of talented actors who grew up on the show and are ready to work after a long forced hiatus in 2020.

What We Know About the Little House on the Prairie Reboot

To be completely honest, we don’t know much about the reboot of Little House on the Prairie. It seems that Paramount and their partners at Anonymous Content are being pretty tight-lipped about the project. However, what we do know is fairly exciting.

For instance, we know that Trip Friendly will most likely be an executive producer for the show, according to Women’s Health. His father, Ed Friendly bought the TV and movie rights to Little House on the Prairie. When he passed in 2007, those rights went to his son. So, it stands to reason that he would be closely involved with the series.

We also know that at least one cast member is willing to come back and play a different role. Alison Arngrim, who played Nellie in the original series says she is ready to head back to Walnut Grove. About this, she said, “I’m just the right age to play Mrs. Oleson. I’m totally there. I have no shame.” Seeing the former Nellie actress come back to play her on-screen mother would be a treat for fans.

Also, we can assume that Melissa Gilbert will come back in some capacity. She was one of the show’s biggest stars. Today, she is the de facto face of the show. She portrayed her on-screen mother in a 2009 stage adaptation of Little House on the Prairie. So, she could come back to do it again for the reboot.

Stay tuned. We’ll have more details as they come out.
