The Mandalorian Season 3 Will Explore Din & Bo-Katan’s Relationship

The Mandalorian season 3 will explore Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Bo-Katan's (Katee Sackhoff) rivalry, teases creator and head writer Jon Favreau.

According to creator Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian season 3 will explore Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Bo-Katan’s (Katee Sackhoff) rivalry. Premiered in 2019, The Mandalorian was the first Star Wars series to air on Disney+. Created and written principally by Favreau, the show begins five years after the events of Return of the Jedi. It follows a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter who goes on the run to protect the child named Grogu. Following their The Book of Boba Fett appearance, the duo is now set to return in The Mandalorian season 3.

Bo-Katan Kryze was first introduced in the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars before appearing again in Star Wars Rebels. The character was voiced by Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff in both animated shows, who then reprised the role in live-action for The Mandalorian season 2. Bo-Katan was the previous owner of the Darksaber before it was passed into the hands of Moff Gideon and eventually won by Din Djarin during The Mandalorian season 2 finale, naturally setting up a conflict between the two Mandalorians.

Now, Favreau is opening up about the relationship between Din Djarin and Bo-Katan in The Mandalorian season 3. During an interview with ComicBook at the recent Star Wars Celebration, the show’s head writer teased the rivalry between the two Mandalorians in the upcoming season. Read what he had to say below:

Having those two characters weave together, I think, really caught people in an unexpected way. Two sets of Mandalorians that actually seem very different co-existing in the same world, so, now as we go into the next season, we start to really explore what that means and how those characters might see eye to eye or maybe not get along at all.

Ever since Din Djarin obtained the Darksaber, the Star Wars show has set up a conflict between the two Mandalorians. Some have begun to speculate if Bo-Katan will be the main villain in The Mandalorian season 3. To become the leader of the Mandalorians, Bo-Katan will have to defeat Din in combat to earn the Darksaber rightfully. Some Mandalorian season 3 footage screened at the Star Wars Celebration continued to tease this conflict between the two by showing a tense interaction between Bo-Katan and Din.

Favreau is also right to point out the stark differences between Din and Bo-Katan. They come from very different factions of Mandalorian society, which established a natural conflict between the two since they first crossed paths. It sounds like their rivalry will come to a head in The Mandalorian season 3 as Bo-Katan and Din try to settle their differences once and for all, or perhaps discover they are ultimately irreconcilable. The Mandalorian season 3 is set for February 2023 release, with season 4 already in development.
