‘Yellowstone’: Is John Dutton’s Former Flame Returning?

On Friday, a Yellowstone star we haven’t seen this season so far revealed that her character is making a return during Sunday’s brand new episode.

Governor Lynelle Perry actress Wendy Moniz shared a still shot from this weekend’s upcoming episode. The photo includes her character talking closely with the show’s patriarch John Dutton (Kevin Costner). It seems to confirm her first appearance to date in Season 4 of the hit Paramount drama. The last we saw Governor Perry was in the final episode of Season 3, “The World Is Purple.”

As always, John is doing everything he can to secure the future of his land and the Dutton Ranch. Once an ally, Governor Perry is working against the Duttons as she attempts to bring in more business to the area at the expense of the family’s land. However, the two were more than friendly in seasons past.

In fact, the pair have had an on-again, off-again romantic relationship and have for years, which even predates what viewers have seen on the show. Their characters share a long and complicated history with one another. But it’s mostly been a beneficial one until last season when Governor Perry sided with corporations trying to expand their Montana town. You’ll have to tune in on Sunday to find out what John and Governor Perry are discussing in Moniz’s photo from the next episode of Yellowstone.

“She’ll be coming ‘round the mountain,” the Yellowstone star wrote while adding both a winking face and cowboy emoji. “Taylor Sheridan directed this scene …working with him and @kevincostnermodernwest on the ranch that day, with the sun setting behind those trees was dreamy. Tune in Sunday to find out what this convo is all about.”

‘Yellowstone’ Star Says Dutton Ranch Represents Fight for American Dream

There’s a reason that the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch and its surrounding Montana scenery is such an integral part of the show. The location itself can be considered a main character as much as John Dutton and his children. While speaking on the debut episode of “The Official Yellowstone Podcast,” Kayce Dutton actor Luke Grimes talked about the location, the ranch, and their importance to the show.

Grimes joined host and Jimmy actor Jefferson White to discuss all things Yellowstone recently for the podcast’s first episode. For Grimes, he thinks the Dutton family and their ranch represent the pursuit of the American Dream. That’s one of the many reasons he thinks the hit drama has resonated with so many fans. Further, he says it’s the backbone of the Yellowstone story.

“The romantic idea of the west is a part of the reason that people love this show so much,” Grimes explained on the podcast. “Being able to escape, you know, and just sit in their living rooms and go to this place is one of the most important parts of our show. It’s what Yellowstone is about — sort of fighting for that romantic of what that could be. The Yellowstone Ranch is at the crux of everything in the show. The beauty of the west is at the core of everything we do.”
