The Mandalorian’s Story Mirrors Ahsoka’s From Clone Wars Through Rebels

Thanks to The Book of Boba Fett which continued the journey of Din Djarin, The Mandalorian’s ongoing story has been set up to mirror the journey of Ahsoka Tano from the end of The Clone Wars through Star Wars Rebels. Existing as two warriors who once adhered to a larger order and/or creed, Din Djarin and Ahsoka Tano have become very much alike. As such, these similarities may provide a framework for what’s in store for Din Djarin in The Mandalorian season 3.

Near the end of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka Tano was framed for a murder she didn’t commit with a fair amount of false (yet convincing) evidence stacked against her. As such, the Republic and Jedi Council turned on Anakin Skywalker’s padawan as she was forced to clear her own name as a fugitive. While she was successful and received apologies, Ahsoka decided to leave the Jedi Order and walk her own path, becoming a Jedi no longer. Following the end of The Clone Wars, Ahsoka would become the mysterious contact known as Fulcrum in Star Wars Rebels, gathering information and data while helping to bring together individual cells resisting the Empire’s control, uniting them into the full-fledged Rebel Alliance it became prior to Star Wars: Rogue One and the original trilogy of films.

Interestingly enough, The Book of Boba Fett episode 5 set the stage for Din Djarin’s story to follow a very similar path as Ahsoka Tano’s previous arc. Following The Mandalorian season 2 where Djarin came into the possession of the Darksaber, this particular episode saw Djarin returning to his clan known as the Children of the Watch. However, he had no choice but to confess that he had removed his helmet, breaking their creed. As such Djarin has now become an “apostate” (a person who’s renounced their beliefs in a particular institution). As such, Djarin no longer has his clan and will likely be on his own heading into Mandalorian season 3, just like Ahsoka Tano when she left the Jedi Order in The Clone Wars.

It should be noted that Din Djarin is still the wielder of the Darksaber. As such, it means he could unite and restore the fractured planet Mandalore with its surviving clans having been scattered across the galaxy ever since the Great Purge known as the Night of 1000 Tears. If he succeeds, Djarin’s story will further mirror Ahsoka’s, uniting Mandalrore just as Ahsoka united the Rebel Alliance following their departures from their respective groups.

Seeing as how the Mandalorian’s Darksaber has a unique black blade while Tano’s lightsabers are strikingly white, there’s a unique symmetry and dichotomy between the two warriors even in terms of aesthetics. That being said, the difference between Din Djarin and Ahsoka is that Djarin seemingly wishes to restore his honor and rejoin his clan. However, he may abandon that desire if or when he embraces his greater purpose of uniting Mandalore. Either way, the story of The Mandalorian is being set up to mirror Ahsoka’s Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels adventures quite well.
